Insect Infestation by schizoid2k

[raw]
made by schizoid2k for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Protect your back yard from bugs! Control your electric lawn mower and run over the insects as they try to destroy your shed and mower.

Bugs that get into your shed or jump on the back of your mower will cause damage. Mower health is reset every 5 waves.

Use WASD, arrows, or GamePad joystick to control your mower.

How any waves can you survive?

Nice job!
constructive feedback: Maybe the ants should go straight for the house instead of the player? That's the only thing I could think of! Overall good project!

The art was nice and the game was intuitive to pick up. The sound effects were catchy too (and some funny, ants!) You may want to rate some other games to increase your exposure on the front page smart filter! I think you can get some good ratings!

Very good game and after 6-7 waves goes to interesting hard level. Waves before 5 is too easy I think.

Found bug: "S" key move down-right, and "D" is not working as move right.

Same bug as above me. Right key doesn't work, have to trick it a little bit to go on the left and that is a bit anoying :/
But the wave system/mower health system look solid :)
Good job !

The graphics and sounds are very good, the mechanics pretends to be interesting, but with the bug mentioned above of the D key, it's hard to enjoy the game.

I thought I was the only one with the weird controls, but I wasn't. Or maybe it adds to the difficulty. :-D

OMG! Thanks to everyone for letting me know about the "S" key issue. I just fixed that bug and uploaded a fix.
I was testing with a joystick and arrow keys, and completely missed this.

Thanks for playing, and I hope you give a working copy another play.

I really liked how the beetles had more stepped movement. It made them unpredictable and were fun to mow down. The ants felt like the natural threat due to their speed, but I found it weird that they prioritized the mower over the house since it only really helped me. The graphics were well done and the sound effects complimented the experience quite well. Nice!

ants is so real and natural. your game will better if your insects move smoother. Good Job!

The sounds made it really satisfying to go around and kill the insects. If you'd put a bit of screenshake on there or particles it would've felt even better. Good job!

Really fun experience.

Ants should definitely be targeting the house more than the mower.

I agree with the previous comments, especially the Screen Shake or something like that would be funnier. :hearts:  Nice Job!

893 is my score.

I dont think ants should target the house more. I think this is nice because while targeting you they can run into the house. forcing you to change direction.

nice game. I don't if ticks should actually tick.. I think a more natural movement would be nicer.

I almost tried flicking the first ant that showed up... I assumed it was real (I get lots of bug visitors to my computer screen for some reason). I had a nice smooth experience with this game - the controls work well and the idea is easy to understand. I started to feel at about wave 9 that I could no longer hope to keep the bugs away (though the health reset at wave 10 was very welcome) - maybe adding different challenges than "more bugs" would help (I really liked when the ants showed up, for instance) or adding some sort of risk-reward mechanic (e.g. if there was a good reason to go far from the home - with the mower idea, there could be some sort of trail of cut grass which slows the bugs down or has some other such positive effect to give a new dimension to the game). Though it could be expanded, it worked well as a short game - I enjoyed playing through it.

Good game, Those ants can be a pain in the *** if not careful enough, I would add some effects like yellow blood or leaving the dead bodies of the insects, and maybe some power-ups to spice up the game like a larger front or a speed-up, overall a great game, the sound effects are cool and I just love the way the ants move. Keep it up.

"Oh no, ants!"

I liked that the ants targeted the lawnmower instead of the house but still ended up going there (by trying to go through it). Also, the amount of bugs escalated quickly haha, first wave was nada, a few waves later I could barely seen the grass anymore. x)

Simple & fun!
