Save That Baby by JordyForNow

[raw]
made by JordyForNow for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

This game is about trying to save a baby falling out of the sky, keep it alive by bouncing it with the net carried by two very nice guys.

This is the first game I ever made, it's really simple and far from perfect but I'm really happy with the result. I hope you can get some fun out of it while playing. Please post your high score down below!

This game is hilarious to play. I do wish the people were collidable. If the baby hits a person it would be great for it to bounce or fall back into the net. When a baby dies, I found it frustrating that they killed other babies. I had a pile of babies in my net before I finally figured out how to shuffle them onto the floor.

Pressing the escape key in the WebGL version goes to a black screen and you can't do anything but refresh the webpage.

Lmao the death sprite is a pretty darn grim, but the actual gameplay is fun xD

I found it funny that hitting the building wall or other baby...bits will also kill the baby (What a weird sentence).

The dead babies piling up was disturbing. But then I figured out how to throw them on the ground...

Wonderful. I don't think I have anything to say. I love the brutality. Good job buddy. Oh and my highscore was 28!

Congratulations on your first game ever! Now, get ready for your first harsh review ever!

Collision kills!

The floor kills, the walls kill, **even baby corpses kill**. This, combined with how quick horizontal momentum builds up as you reflect babies on the trampoline makes the game unwindable after a while.

To your credit, the blue "paramedics" have cute walking animations so there's that. I liked how they controlled, even if they were almost never able to outrun the baby when it's flying in an arc.

It's a lot better than my first LD (on the old site) which didn't even restart unless you refreshed the page if memory serves right XD I wish you luck in honing your skills today, so can make a better game tomorrow. Cheers!

Good use of the theme, not sure killing babies accidentally in this game from bad skills can add to the score of humur, and some more sound/music could have been nice. A bit unsure of the current sound effects, maybe you ran out of time? The graphics are functional but perhaps could have done more with it, and can see it improving in future. I like idea of the trampoline and paramedics. I think it's a little harsh that babies are killed if they touch the buildings, and I think something more could be added than just a score of how many you've bounced, just so it feels that there's more resolve? The movement of the trampoline feels like a classic game :) Overal good work and look forward to next time

Turns out I am really bad at saving babies. Very fun simple game.

The trampoline performance was the best feature of the game. I had no trouble bouncing the babies around. The only problem I personally had with the game, was the content. I hope you will find something a little more mainstream with your next game. Best to you.

Despite being such a simple game, there is a LOT that I appreciate here!

For one, there's absolutely no friction between the player and the game. No menus to navigate when you die, no instruction screens to convey the simple premise, just continuously spawning babies and you're immediately in the action. It's a weird thing to point out, but I really appreciated it!

The mechanics are also deceptively more complex than they originally appear. I love the fact that you can essentially put "spin" on the baby like it's some kind of ping-pong ball, and that you have to use that to your advantage in order to prevent the baby from hitting the outer walls.

This reminds me a lot of old-school flash games I would play all the time back in the day. Simple concept, but addicting replayability. Well done!

Honestly I think this is probably the most fun I've had out of all the games I've tried so far. Sometimes simple is best, yet like the last reviewer said there is a subtle complexity to the mechanics with how you can spin the baby by moving left or right when it bounces. I know some of the physics is built into Unity but you've put it all together into a really simple and fun package. Did you add some randomness to the spin/bounce? Definitely continue to work on the game as I think you have something here, with more features and progression, stuff to avoid etc. it could be a really good game.

Surprisingly fun! Reminded me of the puppy love sections in Earthworm Jim where you bounce puppies in a similar way. Maybe it could be fun to juggle multiple babies as a way to up the challenge. Also I don't know why but I find the walking sound effect oddly satisfying.

Hahaaa! The artwork is hilarious. I wish there was a title screen so I could prepare myself for the intense gameplay, but other than that, I really liked it. Congrats on your first Ludum Dare.

The sounds and animations actually add quite a significant amount of life into the characters. Even if the game doesn't get progressively harder or anything, it adds a bit of replay value. The baby is terrifying though. I played this up to 63 or something.
