Permit A-39 by kirroyal

Play the hottest fetch quest game of the year NOW!
Bureaucracy, bureaucracy, bureaucracy, bureaucracy, the never ending story. It would seem that regardless of how our technology advances, the hurdles we have to take to get things done just don’t get any lower. Kafka vented his frustration about it in “The Trial”, Goscinny and Uderzo show its maddening effect in “The Twelve Tasks of Asterix” and Adams made fun of it in “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy”. Joining these great names is our humble team of developers with an everlasting fetch quest to apply for that one thing you don’t really want or need, but is required of you for some reason.
Tutorial: Go to the main desk and ask about the process to get your thing done. Once you’ve asked, remember the order in which the symbols are displayed and visit the counters in that order. Don’t go to the wrong booth though, because as much as bureaucrats love wasting your time, they hate you wasting theirs. You may have to start over. Once you fulfill your task, you may receive more to do. Try and get as far in the process as possible.
Tip: You can look at the map at the entrance to get an overview of the building!
Attention: Other visitors can give you additional tasks when you come too close to them!
Controls:
A -> Move Left
D -> Move Right
W -> Climb Stairs or Ride Elevator Upwards
S -> Descend Stairs or Ride Elevator Downwards
E -> Interact with reception and counters

Just one thing - getting up/down the stairs was such a pain in the butt, I overshot it so many times and had to come back and try it again. But at least it was a really nice stairs - the whole game is really nice to look at!
In any case, great job!
Congrats :)
Édit : oh yes it is definitely inspired by Astérix, I just read your description haha
I guess interaction can be improved. Stairs don't work each time for me... Interation with the clerk also wasn't smooth... Initially, I've struggled to initiate it.
Strengths :
- Strong visual style
- Fun dialogue and concept
Possible improvements :
- Lack of visual feedback and confusing goal do not make for the best first impression. But then again, I missed the tutorial at first, so it's mostly my fault for being a dumbass
But all in all, great job ! I really enjoyed going with the flow of the game
Feel free to ignore most of the things due to jam scope, etc, but I’m giving feedback assuming you would keep working in the game.
Could’ve been better:
- Controls could be easily be simplified
Right now you don't have any overlapping stairs, elevator and/or counters. So the controls can be simplified to:
- A/D - Movement
- E - Enter Stairs/Elevator/Door
- It's not clear how you traverse from one side to the other, since there's no visible connection between elements.
- Camera movement is too sudden, smoothing/lerp it out can fix the problem (:
Good points:
- Lunareffect I loved the track!
- The game concept scope seems to be about right
Just try to communicate the interactions within the game elements so it can be understandable out a glance. Remember the principle of "form follows function" and you guys should be good.
e.g.:
- Elevators only move up and down, so adding a floor displayer on top of the elevator indicating the current floor + arrow would solve the problem of getting lost while doing that.
- Apartment doors signs could tell where the doors would lead to, etc...
I hope that is useful! Don't forget to like my comment in case it was helpful ♥
If you can, click on my profile and leave some constructive feedback on my game as well (:
Thank you <3
I'm also glad you liked the music. I got home from a long day of hacking and sat down for half an hour to create it, thinking there was a music category. Unfortunately there is only a sound category, so we didn't feel comfortable allowing ratings for sound.
I'll be sure to check your game out tomorrow!
