Pyrokidiac by Emmanuel Gaillot

[raw]
made by Emmanuel Gaillot for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Kid likes to play with fire. Help Kid keep the fire alive.

I wanted to make a game in the fashion of the old Game and Watch eletronic games from Nintendo.Screenshot 2020-04-19 at 23.29.01.png

I like it, the controls were hard to get at first, but I really like the retro handheld style and sound effects. Good job.

Really liked the retro sound effects, and the way the player moved gave me old game and watch vibes.

I really like the peaceful mood and the graphics design. I wish I had more feedback about the need to water plans or feed the dinosaur.

I like the modern take on the retro games. Took me back to my childhood road trips annoying my parents with those persistent beeps. :)

I think if you would have placed the wood on the screen, it would have been more obvious as to what you were trying to do. Keep in mind, most people either skim or skip instructions altogether. So either make them fun to read, or integrate them into the gameplay somehow. Overall though, nice work on this.

Nice little game, would be good on one of those 100-games-in-1 handhelds I think.
Very retro, and great art.
I think some more expansion on the gameplay mechanic may have added an extra layer to it (Fire spreads out of control or something?), but still a solid little time waster.
As others have said, visual prompts would have saved me a few restarts.

simple mechanic, but just as you think you got it, you can get overconfident and burn :D
a restart button would be helpful, other than that very fun minigame :)

Liked the old school feel of the game. As has been said a restart button would be nice.

Fun game, lost a few rounds until I got the hang of it. Since the kid has minimal graphics, I started imagining them as a little girl in a thick overcoat trying to keep warm or something :)

Interesting design decision to make it so you basically can't lose without screwing up hahaha. So every time I die, I know I only have me to blame. Love the old Game and Watch look and audio. Nice entry!

It was a cool idea to make this look like a Game & Watch game, hadn't seen that before!

Oh neat, i like the game & watch feel to it, though there isn't much content. Still, a neat game! Good work.

Cute little game. Chill, I like it.
Death comes quite quickly though, could have been more easy for the starters.
Good one overall.
Cheers

The drop-shadow really sells the G&W look.

Really cool looking game  Really punishing when messing up what keys to press (which I did all of the time ) Good job!
