The Daily Grind by Basileios

made by Basileios for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

The Daily Grind is a game about going to work. Throughout the game, you're stuck in an endless loop of getting up, getting dressed, leaving the house, getting on the bus, arriving at work and sorting paper. You're timed in each segment of the game, and if you take too long you loose. For every loop you complete successfully, you earn a point. See how high you can get your score!

I really wanted the win condition that gets you out of the loop to be going outside before putting your clothes on. I ended up losing the first couple of times just because it took most of the timer to read the prompt. Maybe a confirm button after reading before starting the timer.

Well, I managed to finish five days on the job. It's nicely presented, but a bit too simple. I get the point that you're going with to make it work around the theme, but the gameplay suffers for it.

Fine entry. Tried different way to get out of the loop. with no avail unfrotunately. Managed to get 6 points. I think the 'Paperology' could be done per click rather drag and drop, but maybe it's just me :)

Is The Paperology segment randomized?

@mikoziq thanks for the feedback! yes, it's randomised. It increases mildly with time as well.

The gameplay was simple, but it was well done. I like how life was a series of minigames. The short amount of time per task kept it interesting.

Nice pixel art too, though there wasn't much time to appreciate it.

@pincushion thanks! This is the first game with a sizable amount of art which I did myself, so it's good to hear positive feedback about it!

Reminds me of "Every Day the Same Dream" by Molleindustria, but with with less choice.

@c1tr00z thanks! I had a good deal of homework to do over the weekend and the art took a while, so I couldn't fit in too many minigames. Great that you enjoyed it tho!

I like the cocept. The game could be improved and when it is done I guess it could be a top game!

Superb graphics. As for poor man, I hope he will be promoted some day so he'll get Z's too.

nice simple game well executed. Made it 4 before I gave up, slightly better than my normal week.

Neat little game. Though it does get repetitive after a while, but that's part of the theme. Maybe some tasks changing each time would spice it up a bit? I respect that you don't get thousands of points at a time. Good work!

I liked this alot! What interested me the most is that we did a very similar idea, but took a very different approach to doing it, so it was fun seeing another game of what ours could've been if we had gone a different route.
i thought the music matched the art very well, and the instant restart was nice to get you right back into the game.
