Fire in time by leggy

[raw]
made by leggy for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Help Flammy lighting up the campfires in this hot-headed quest. Hurry! The fire won't burn for too long without his touch.

  • Hold left mouse button and release it to create a wall. Bouncing on a wall increases Flammy's speed.

  • Press spacebar (or double click - or double tap, on mobile) to empower Flammy, incresing his size for a short duration.

  • Everytime Flammy exits the screen will slow down.

There shouldn't be many bugs, hopefully :)

Update (2020/10/08): we are currently working on fixing major gameplay bugs issued during your kind review phase. Android build will also be released soon! Keep in touch!

Update (2020/10/12): released 0.2.0 with fixes to major bugs, android and web build. flammy.jpg

Simple, self explanatory, and a fun little time killer. It was great to mess around with.

Fun little physics fire game, was nice to play around with the fire without the worry of a timer, my aim wasnt great but i did get there eventually haha!

Intresting Idea! I liked you game but here are some of my complaints.

1. Is the Text supposed to be small? If not, Make the UI Scale with the Screen Size
2. The Back button wasn't working
3. I don't really see the Impact the spacebar is doing.
4. I would recomend you putting a cooldown on the "Flammy Impact"

Fun Idea, but it could use a little bit more work :)

cool and all, but sometimes drawing lines fails can get a little bit frustrating

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed this prototype.
Your complaints are more or less expected:
1. indeed it should scale but we fought against time untill the very last 2 minutes
2. we will investigate. could you provide info about the resolution you played with?
3. do you see Flammy enlarge (also a sound should be played)?
4. agreed, we should display more indicators

Thank you again, we will soon survey your submission

@leggy Hey there! Here are some things that i am going to say about your game

1.I can understand rushing and finishing it but usually i dosen't really give a good effect on your game.
2.I think it was 1800x900? I don't think that it shows what Reolution you are playing on
3.Yes, I did see it but what i meant by are the effects of the "Flammy Impact" (ex. The duration of the fire wasn't really that diffrent)

@witekwitek the effect is slight: by enlarging Flammy can cover a larger area while moving. So if you have an almost precise direction towards 1 or more log piles chances are that by enlarging you could not need to adjust your direction.

It's much harder to control the ball than I thought.

Quite challenging game with 5+ targets. I enjoyed it a lot.

Often line would get disabled when I was drawing it leading to frustration. Not sure why it happened close to screen edge.

The game get's challenging when the speed picks up and there are 4+ firepits. I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. It made me quickly think of how to get the fireball to multiple firepits. I found that not being able to drag a line to the edge made it frustrating on occasion as others have also said. That would be a good fix. The sound effects were great as well as the graphics. Good work!

Fun little game, though I am absolutely terrible at it. :D The placement of the walls was a bit wonky at times but nothing too game breaking.

Simple and fun game, though I feel it needed some more elements to it such as obstacles or water.

Nice game, I enjoyed playing it! This game would do really nice on mobile I think.

Seems really quite fun! My only suggestion here really is to add some background music. I know you have the background sound effects, but I think a bubbly backing track would really help this feel like a complete package. :)

@matt-jones thank you for your feedback and suggestions. Maybe you didn't notice sound of nature playing in the background? Or maybe audio broke for some reason? I know it may be not the best fit as a background track but at least there is one now. We always love to receive feedback on possible improvements. Thank you again

It a nice idea. I can quit from the game.(It is missing most of the desktop jam games) :D You built a menu that's good. I can imagine this as a mobile game. It was satisfying to burn more campfire without direction changing.

This game would be pretty fun to play in a touch screen. Needs just a little bit juice like some effects when you release the lmb.

A super simple, and fun little game. I overall like the game idea. I would perhaps have liked a more contend. The visuals is fine, without being something super special. Overall a fun little jam game. Well done.

@jk5000 Hello and thank you for your feedback. Indeed a little bit more feature are planned for the future. Due to the lack of time the game was as you played it. In the short time we will release some major bugfix and mobile portability. Stay tuned

Neat game :)
It was already mentioned before, but this game would work well with touchscreen controls, e.g. as a mobile game :)

This is a fun game. The mouse pointer could be changed to something more obvious. I occasionally lost track of the pointer when keeping an eye on the flame, especially when the pointer is on the far right of the screen. The spacebar ability didn't seem very useful, perhaps a larger radius would help. Good entry, I enjoyed this a lot.

Nice concept here and level progression was well paced. Ngl, I was a little disappointed that Flammy didn't have a face in the actual gameplay :( Even if he had little eyes, that would have satisfied me haha! The animation was good and audio feedback was satisying so I knew exactly what was happening. The detail of adding flame animation to the start menu was a really nice touch too and it's always nice to see small things like that as it makes the whole game feel much more polished! Awesome job and well done!

[We played this on stream last night!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/773934372?t=00h27m24s) Sorry we went on some pretty *deep* tangents while we were playing. Hopefully the footage of your game is still enjoyable.

I actually really enjoyed this one. The premise was simple to understand and execute on. I do wish that I had a better idea of where the fireball was going to bounce off to, as I made a lot of miscalculations in my trajectories. I also never really saw a need to use the "empowering" effect too often. Still, I had more than enough fun just trying to bounce the fireball all around the screen. Very nice job here!

Hey, nice stream. it was the very first time I saw someone playing a my creation. It has been somewhat exciting. I saw you got better during the stream, later on you placed some very god walls in a row :)

Thanks for playing it and enjoying it!
