Glitch Lab

You are a glitched robot in a secret laboratory, there is a loop in your system. The laboratory's security system is activated and the engineers will try to stop you. You have to escape despite your technical issue.

Glitch Lab is a Sci-Fi game that we made in less than 72 hours for Ludum Dare 47 with the theme "Stuck in a loop". It was our first game jam and we're very proud of what we have done. We'll probably continue to work on it and bring new features.

"Glitch" was chosen because of the theme. We created a fake glitch loop in the robot system that makes you do actions one after the other. The robot behaviour is dependant of that. The game finally turned into a hardcore like, and we really enjoy it! It requires to try again and again to finish the level in order to understand what you exactly have to do in a specific situation.

Controls:

Jam Version

  • Q/D or Keyboard Arrows: Robot orientation.
  • Space: Jump.
  • F or Mouse Left-Click: Shoot/Melee Smash.

Post Jam Version

  • A/D or Keyboard Arrows: Robot orientation.
  • Space: Jump.
  • K or Mouse Left-Click: Shoot.

Post Jam Version:

We heard your feedbacks ! Thank you so much for playing the game and give us your feedbacks to improve it. Right now you can play the Post Jam Version.

  • Hotfix most of the bugs (see below "Bugs" field).
  • The difficulty has been reviewed.
  • Inputs have been reviewed.
  • 2D elements have been added / reworked.
  • Melee Smash has been removed. (For several reason, but we'll try to work on it again)
  • Menu has been reworked.
  • After death, you no longer need to wait to play again. (And the Game Over panel has been removed)
  • Different Post Processing Effect added.

Behaviour:

The robot

Its behaviour is really based on the Game Jam's theme. Run ► Jump ► Attack

  • The robot runs permanently until you jump.
  • After you jumped, the robot is stopped until you shoot.
  • ~~The melee attack is always available when you run~~. (Removed in Post Jam Version)
  • You may shoot in the air (if you jumped) after a short delay.

AI

It's very basic and unfortunatly we didn't have time to improve it: * ~~If you are aimed by an ennemy and then you jump, he will reacts like "Fine ! There is no more robot other here."~~. (Reviewed in Post Jam Version) * ~~The scientists don't hear you. So if you are coming in their back, they are not going to step back because of that~~. (Reviewed in Post Jam Version) * ~~The ennemy's shooting delay could be shorter. But we didn't change it because of the difficulty~~. (Reviewed in Post Jam Version) * The scientists may shoot only on the left / right. * They can "hear" you if you are in their back. (Post Jam Version)

Bugs:

There is no major bug that would prevent you to play.

  • ~~Sometimes / rareley the bullet may go through the vent grids~~.
  • When the robot stop to run, it may looks like stuck on a create corner.
  • ~~One of the scientist may see you through a wall~~.
  • With a specific move, one the AI may follow you in the air or through a wall. We are sorry about tha and will fix it as soon as possible.

A final Post Jam Version will be available in few days. Please let us know if you meet an other bug.

It's very fun!
It took me awhile to get use to the robot behaviour loop, it is a very interesting concept.
The art and music combined to a nice mood.
The AI logic could be improved

@aviv871 thank you for your feedback ! Yes I would appreciate to have a better AI but we were out of time to finish the game as we wanted. Even in term of mecanics :/ For sure in an other version we will fix this ;)

Nice game! Didn't get used to how the mechanics work as well, it's kinda weird, but it's a interest concept, it lacks a bit of polish, but still pretty good, nice work"

@hakunasoft thank you for your feedback :) We are actually working on it and will send a post jam version soon.
In fact, the difficulty will be adapted too and will increase later in the game, to allow time to get the mechanics.

Nice concept, I really liked the loop concept and the graphics. The mechanics and controls could be improved a bit but overall good job. I also created a robot inspired game if you want to check it out and rate it I appreciate :) https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/peter-carlson-pc-adventures

So, I don't seem good enough to get very far. But the jump and movement feel tight. Music is good too. I guess if I were to suggest anything it would be to remove the game over screen. Seems like a game you'd die a lot in, and its discouraging having to wait each time especially when you keep dying almost instantly at the first section. Just respawn the player and in the end you'll probably play a lot more than you had planned to. Bold idea, well done

@denzil-gomes Thank you for your feedback, we'll consider it for a post jam version :)

Cute graphics, and great idea. Only thing I would suggest is making the game over screen not wait as long before going back to the menu, it takes a few deaths to get the hang of the controls, but other than that, awesome entry!

Fun little game. My only critiques are the controls are kinda odd.. The controls on the main screen aren't really enough to sell the Idea and even after reading the itch page, I understand the controls but they are very hard to master.. And as someone previously has stated you shouldn't have to wait longer than a second to restart the level.. Cheers! G/L on the jam.

An interesting entry. The idea is really cool. The art and aniamtions are really nicely done. The audio and music are also very good.
The controls, while unique are very unwieldy. There is too little control from the player to make the moves they want. And the level was very restricting my movements, I would always go the wroong way.

A very interesting idea that might work with some more tweaking.

Interesting glitchy concept! :D

Here are my feedback:

_Positive points
- Stylized art style
- Cool music and SFX
- Great animations

_Negative points
- Weird control system which gives an imprecise gameplay for me

Overall: gg for your work!

Very good. I'm rating it on the jam version to be fair. Cute graphics, especially the robot. The mechanics are unique and fun to learn. My biggest gripe was the difficulty and I feel the character is too slippery. The post-jam version did much better with the difficulty curve but could still use checkpoints. Nice entry!

I really like the art and it is really cool. It was a really hard game and a cool concept. The only thing i would add is sound, I am not sure if there is a problem with my computer though.

It is really difficult at least for me! I like the recoil after shooting. Amazing music!![GLITCH_LAB.png](///raw/ce9/81/z/3a16b.png)

Thank you guys for your feedback !

-Sound : Actually we just set the volume lower because we didn't get time to add settings like that. Did you occur a different problem ?

-Difficulty : The point is that we had to create a very short game, and we wanted something hard finaly so it turns like that. May be it was a not a good choice for a jam version... But if the game was longer, the diffilty curve would be much better.

-Checkpoint : Consider that this level is a hard one, and the checkpoint is at the end :p But actually yes we should have some checpoint to divide the scene depending on the difficulty.
