Solar Spin by Matt Burton

[raw]
made by Matt Burton for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

Keep your solar powered ship charged by going fast enough to keep up with the sun while avoiding obstacles.

In case you see the title "Zombie Sports" in places, that's because I started out making a zombie game and somehow ended up making an 80s themed flying game ¯_(ツ)_/¯

reminded me amiga500 games. Music is great. The game mechanics that you have implemented awesome. 5 stars for the innovation absolutely.

I love this one! The core mechanic of spinning to avoid the obstacles is really well implemented. My only complaint would be that it starts of very hard, and giving the player more time to learn the technique before throwing hard patterns would help. But overall this is a great game with a very stylish aesthetic.

Thanks for the feedback so far people! This was my first time making music, so I'm glad you like it! I'll remember to make it a bit easier from the get go for my next game :D.

This was a pleasure to play. It was a bit difficult to understand without something telling you to dodge the objects, as from the start it appeared like you needed to shoot them, but once it clicked, it clicked hard. The music and style was very fun, with the only critique being that the theme integration boiled down to don't die, rather than keeping something else alive. That could have been your goal and I'm just an idiot, but those are my ideas. Keep up the good work!

love the aesthetic, reminds me so much of all those vaporwave animations that were really big a couple of years ago, and the music is fantastic. The gameplay is very addictive and as @taffaz said definitely gives me super hexagon vibes

Super! That´s my favorite up tll now from the 8 or so games I´ve played. Great everything. Graphics top-notch, idea really creative and well delivered and even put my own music on halt to listen to the track. Great asthetics!

Music and aesthetics were top-notch!

I originally thought I was going to be trying to zoom in and out of the patterns, but when I realized I needed to *dance* through them... Well. That was amazing.

Thank you for this!

@asgardheavy Hey any time! I like how you said "dance" thru them... I think I'll add that to my title or description if I update the game. Thanks for the feedback!

At first i was super confused about what to do and then i acidentally dodged the first line, and got the game. And then i spent 45 minutes playing it, didn't get further then wave 8. BUT IT WAS AMAZING. The gameplay is extremely entertaining and it just feels right. The aesthetics are super cool and the soundtrack tops it all off. Overall AMAZING.

Great job evoking the 80s theme with the palette and audio. Wonderful soundtrack. I've never played a game quite like this one, so kudos on that as well!

Cute little game - love the graphics and music! I couldn't figure out how to play at first but I got it after dying a couple times. I wish the music track were longer!

Oh dang this is rad! I just wish the music played longer before it looped. The graphics are stellar, the gameplay is amazing. it took me a while to figure out how to dodge the objects, but as soon as it clicked I realized i was being stupid and this game is amazing. Again, the music is super catchy and fun but it loops back to the start just as it's getting even better. Great game! Seriously, this is fantastic.

you know this game is not bad i just think it might need a better damage animation lol. but this game is awesome because i've never seen a game like this and the difficulty is great because if someone can beat the hardest level then there really is'nt a challenge but overall good game :)
I've got as far as level 10 but after that it is just impossible man.
