Uffern by IndieDevDan

[raw]
made by IndieDevDan for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

Work your way through multiple rooms, an item to craft in each. Each room has parts placed neatly in each corner, and your job is to grab the right parts in order to create the correct item needed to get to the next room.

Currently only the Axe and Hammer is craft-able (not including the Phaser.)

Crafting the Axe/Hammer: Tape in the middle, with the Head and Handle on either side (Any orientation should work.)

Eventually you will reach the end, which requires a specific tool to be used to destroy the wall blocking the exit.

To win, you will have to die.

Interesting concept. I like the simple 3d graphics. Good job!

Man that thing scared the living shit out of me! It was a little annoying getting stuck on the walls while that ugly thing was chasing me. In unity you can just add a physics material with 0 friction to you colliders (I would consider it a bug fix ). also when closing the crafting UI I accidentally pressed the escape key by instinct and I had to start all over. Maybe another warning before closing would fix that? Everything else was spot on. Solid entry, Good job!

@tulipekoni Thanks for the input! Adding a warning before going back to the menu is a great idea!

I didn't get much further than figuring out how to put a wood axe together, but the combination of trying to find a combination that works while knowing you're being stalked makes for some tense moments.

@john-gabriel Haha, I thought about giving the crafting recipes, but I figured having to work it out would add some difficulty. Currently, the crafting recipes are all basically the same, apart from the Phaser at the end.

Sorry I can't figure out the combinations .. maybe you need to know minecraft to solve this? I tried it for about 20 Minutes by now and all I can do is an axe, which spawns the monster that kills me.
PhaserPart
Tape
Handle
doesn't work, no matter in which combination, same with cube instead of Handle and same without Tape at all.

Still has a nice atmosphere - consider adding some hints to your description.

@leorid A lot of the items are only there to confuse the player, they have no purpose other than to fill the inventory requiring the player to die to reset the map. The only craftable items are an axe, and hammer currently. (Along with the phaser) :)

I tried to play the game, but after crafting a weapon I have no idea how to use it.

@jk5000 Creating the tools just open the next room, they have no use currently. Only the final tool (being the Phaser), has a use. :)

@rhoff95 I will have a look to see how well it runs, and then get a version of it running! :)

I got to the blocked wall with a 100% phaser, and then couldn't do anything with it, and someone mentioned the stuff about getting stuck in the walls already.

Apart from that, I was surprised how scary it was when the monster appeared me, even after playing the game over again for the fourth time. Also it looks good, and the sounds, while scarce, work really well, and the crafting was intuitive enough.

Well done.

This game is obviously pretty unfinished (only 3 tools, you can't actually use them, etc.) but the mood is excellent. I was actually scared the first time I saw the monster, so good job on that!

@kuro Did holding down left click whilst aiming at the wall not work? Strange, I will have a look at it soon. Thanks for the input, really appreciate it :)
@quinn-patrick Yes, this is far from the level I wanted it to be, but getting everything done in the time was never going to be possible. Glad the mood and monster works :D
@renge Sorry, only now seeing this. What's your twitch?
@clemonades Thank you, really appreciate it :)

I like the approach! I guess I got stuck at this part without knowing what to do (was at 3) ![Uffern.png](///raw/00e/e1/z/37b9f.png)

@hadryel When you get to the end, you need to have all the Phaser Parts so that you can craft the Phaser, then you can shoot the door down :)

Nice graphics and spooky atmosphere, the controls for the crafting screen were a bit clunky which made it maybe more tense than it should've been

@shp Yeah it was designed to be simple, didn't spend a lot of time on the crafting tbh. Appreciate the feedback! :D

I found myself mostly confused. Played it in the Web version and found it too dark to see anything. Also didn't manage to craft anything :/

Didn't try any other version so maybe it is not a problem there ... But maybe it would be nice to add a flashlight?

Wayyyy too dark, both web and downloadable version. Also, even on low settings it's pretty sluggish.

The monster is a neat surprise, but with the slow movement I can't even escape after craftin the axe.
The atmosphere is great!

@dunderroffe The web version is a lot darker than the normal version, as explained in the description. Also the crafting recipe's are in the description :) @endurion Web version is too dark I agree, but the normal version is that dark for a reason. Yeah I struggle to run it on my MacBook, but it runs fine on my PC. Didn't have time to optimise it :/ Appreciate the feedback!

Neat little idea. Did have to close the curtains in my room to see it properly but that sort-of forced me into the best possible 'setting' for playing the game, I think. Very atmospheric and with some great ideas underneath, and a very impressive achievement in 48 hours.

@judgezedd Thank you for the kind review :) Yeah I wanted to make the game as dark as possible for the mood, but not so dark that it's unplayable.

Nice idea. Really good atmosphere, and the sudden appearance of the monster was great. It is a little dark, but not to the point where it can't be played. I think one thing that might help is some audio/visual indication of when the monster is approaching. I'm incredibly impressed you managed to produce this before the compo deadline.

09. Oct 2020 · 21:54 UTC
@thesedatedprince Much appreciated! The monster should have had it's own sound, which plays in 3D space making it get louder the closer it gets to the player, but perhaps it was a little quiet.

Good game, but average art for me. Partly match the theme, maybe next time it will be better.. Amazing audio, I like it, really. Average fun game, but maybe next time you will polish the gameplay and it will be better. I love mood in this game, awesome.

And game is too dark
