Loop the Loop

is a small rhythm game. You control a war plane equiped with a turret, but it has one major flaw: it's steering is broken!. You are going in loops and can do very little about it! Select abilities and use them to the beat, otherwise the plane will fall apart.

Controls

Use WASD or Arrow Keys to select the ability; + Top: turret + Bottom: repair + Left: booster + Right: steer

Space or LMB to Use (only works on beat). ssgame2.png

Really enjoyed! High rating all around, I really liked the innovative take on the theme and the gameplay - took some getting used to but flowed really nicely once I had the controls down.

Thanks for the feedback! I'm relly glad you liked it, it was literally the third game I tried to make for this jam and didn't really have time for playtesting @valkija

A solid concept and really well executed. Definitely requires some practice to get good at it. I made it to the first creatively named checkpoint :)

Every once in a while it seems like the rhythm dots "run out" and then suddenly reappear again but it's pretty rare and I didn't lose many beats to it.

It does not seem to work on a mac, it keeps saying that the file cannot be opened. Too bad, from the pictures I really love the style. I'll try to open it on a windows later, and I'll update my feedback, I'm super curious about it

@aquanim thanks for you rating! Yes, the beat does run out but I didn't have time to patch this bug. Maybe i'll try to fix it.

@macmist sorry! I don't own a Mac and always had trouble building for the platform. I'll try to fix it but I don't really understand the way Mac executes apps.

Took me a while to get it, but I really like the concept once I got hang of it! It's a bit repetative, and I got a bit dizzy, but all inn all a solid game in my opinion!

Great game. Took a while to get the hang of, and I am terrible at rythm, but fun.

Cool beat concept, even if I'm not a specialist of rhythm game!

Here are my feedback:
_Positive points
- Nice graphic style
- Clever usage of the theme, and it goes the same for the rhythm style...

_Negative points
- ...it is maybe my fault but it was hard for me to hit well on the beat.
- The Shift input is not a great choice with a repetitive behavior input (skip of the pop-up), indeed it may trigger the remanence Windows input.

Overall: good work!

You are right, I should probably change the key.
I have the shift functions disabled and forgot about it.

This was great, I could not get it at the first read of instructions but eventually got better at playing, thanks for the enjoyable experience! Also, the art and music were really on point!

Really nice concept. It would be nice to see this concept expanded on.

Really fun. I wish you could replenish ammo and repair meters. Also, is there a max speed? I feel like I wasted a lot of clicks trying to go faster

Enjoyed the game. Maybe a better tutorial popup at the start explaining how to play would be nice. I don't know if I am just dumb, but it took me 3 deaths to figure out how to play xD

Nice rhythm-based game, very original idea! I think a little explanation of all the abilities would be nice, I still don't quite understand all of them (except for hammer). And I played on Linux by the way, the game runs great!

Thanks for the ratings! @baran @eugenik @steve7411 @kisamegr @theogen
@sanojian Yes, there is. The booster increases your speed to a constant value (+5 the normal speed), and doesn't allow you to go faster than that.

Really weird and interesting mechanics, that all come together in a resource management/rhythm game hybrid! Big fan of this after I fully understood all the complexities. Undoing progress with the loops is a really cool and unintuitive mechanic (I mean that in a good way!). Really makes you think hard about what abilities to equip when. I think any great rhythm game should break your brain a bit by overloading it with new info and this certainly achieves that.

Anyway visuals and audio were also great, maybe tutorialisation of the different abilities could be better, took me a while to even understand what steering was, let alone what it actually did.

@jam373 Thanks! You are right, the tutorial isn't the best, but it was done in the last few hours because I started making it on the almost-last day. I'm glad you liked the audio, I'm not a music producer and this is the first song that I've made with FL studio.

Very interesting! Unique gameplay, even if it was really difficult, once I figured it out, it was really fun. The fun seems to be in juggling all of the different things at once. Great submission!
