Tree of Life by noneegy

[raw]
made by noneegy for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

This is a game made by noonegy, Grizley, Noggi and Morcado. We are first starters and this is our attempt. It's not complete but you can play a little.

Move with arrow keys. Keep the tree safe from enemies. Collect fertilizer(the yellow bag of poop) to grow the tree so you can go to the next stage. Collect the blue spirit to be able to shoot a beam with the mouse button towards where you are pointing with your character not where the mouse is (note: we will change that to a button on the keyboard when we polish the game). Collect the seed to build a wall bush that stops enemies going towards the tree from one side. Collect the watering can to heal the tree. There are 3 stages for the tree to move to the next level (for some reason this doesn't show correctly)

  • Yellow thing: fertilizer. It grows your tree by 1
  • Water can: Heal your tree by 5 hp.
  • Seed (litle bomb thing): Place a protective bush in front of the tree
  • Water drop: You can have a beam to shoot. Press action key (left ctrl or mouse click) to shoot once. You have to pick another to shoot again

  • If you touch enemies you kill them. YOU ARE THE WEAPON DO NOT RUN AWAY FROM THE ENEMIES!

The goal is to pick 5 fertilizers to move to the next level. Each level would be a little harder and different. If HP goes to 0 then you have to go over level 1 again.

The game is NOT complete, a lot of features are missing. But it's our first attempt and we are happy to know your opinion. Thank you for trying and playing!

Built in Unity, with our original artwork and care. (except for sounds)

Edit: Some bugs were fixed because it crashed when you picked up 5 fertilizers

PS: YOU CAN WALL JUMP

Just like @louiejams it was unclear for me who I was at the start, but I quickly figured out how to play. Nice little game. Had fun playing. Thanks for the game!

Loved the pixelart of the game. I didn't know how to put that protective seed around the tree, but other than that, it played nicely. Good job!

I like this game a lot! Nice artstyle, the audio is good, but it lacks some cool UI, i had some trouble noticing what object does what :/
But outside of this, this game is really good!

It is a fun game with nice graphics but has some bugs that need to be fixed. It also wasn't very clear at first what I needed to do but other then that this is a good entry to the jam!

Nice game! Great artwork, even if a little bit inconsistent and unpolished in some areas. The music is simple and blends with the tone of the game well. The gameplay is quite enjoyable and the difficulty curve escalates quite well. More polish, more visual indicators and more game feel elements would go a long way in enhancing the game. Good work!

Overall it was a nice and simple game with a lot of content. There was a lot of bugs(hit reg, spawns, etc.). If you could I would try to make the UI(health) more clear - it was quite small and i didn't notice it until later. Otherwise it was great

Cool game, I like the concept of keeping a plant alive with some action platforming! I like the art style and the music. Sometimes monsters can get stuck inside walls, it's no big deal in a game jam game  I think the game is a bit too easy, but that's understandable given the time constraints.

Good job on this one!

Fun concept. A little buggy as others have said (I mostly had problems with hitboxes). Overall an amazing game for your first attempt! Keep up the good work.

I struggled with some of the platforming elements, either jumping off the edge of the screen, or the hitbox colliding when I wasn't expecting it to. At least at one point in the game the enemies weren't dying when I touched them. On more than a few occasions the enemies seemed to spawn and get stuck in the walls. The UI definitely needed a bit of work to make aspects of it clearer for the user in both of terms of visibility and placement.

Once I got past a few of these things I was able to progress to about level three, though it was tricky with the unkillable enemies to make it that far.

For a first attempt it was a pretty solid game, you all did a good job and should be proud of that.

Fun little platform that fit the theme pretty well! Good job guys!

The killing enemies mechanic confused me a little bit, as some times they would die if I touched them, but other times they wouldn't? It seemed like for the most part the grey enemy needed to be ran into from the back and the green enemy need to be jumped on? Sometimes though they would die from other areas of running into or just not die.

Overall though I enjoyed the game, congrats again!
