Keep Him Alive by Lamossus

[raw]
made by Lamossus for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Night. Street. You hear an angry roar just beside you. But then you see a distant light, a promise of safety. Your wounded ally is tired and can barely walk, let alone defend himself. Will this mansion become your shelter for these hard times or will it attract more unpleasant guests?

Tips:

  • Try to stay in longer corridors to give you more time to shoot

  • You can shoot through open doors and barricades. Take advantage of this!

  • If you think you may get surrounded by zombies try to leave your ally farther away from zombies. You are faster and it is easier for you to run through zombies than it is to your ally

  • But don't go too far away either. The smell of blood attracts the dead and they will try to find your wounded ally

Changelog:

-Changed icon and file name to proper ones. Now game uses DirectX instead of OpenGL to fix few graphical issues

-Fixed audio loss and crashes on restart (I hope)

Credits for audio can be found in a readme.txt file.

A few more things to do would have been nice, but I know how it is. Cool little game.

I've played a lot of games on here that are ruined by being way to hard. This one is really hard, but actually in a fun way, so good job! I was surprised by how smart the zombies were, and the controls felt really well tuned to a survival horror type of game.

Nice game. Impressive to make a game in the MonoGame framework. I like the easthetics and overall mood in this game. Shooting also feels good. But it gets really hard very quickly though. And after the screen with the controls I already forgot some controls. But still it is really cool what you achieved during this game jam!

Great game, I did have fun playing it.
I only played a few so far, but this is the best for now!
I wish there was more types of monsters. Just a different sprite, and health.
Great job

Realisation is correct, good pixel art and sound. Very cool idea, but the game is difficult, the resistance of the barricade is not too hight, and it cost limited ressources... that's not effective. You need to adjust the difficulty i think.

I love the art of the game! And this game was made with Monogame, I guess? I've been working with Monogame for a while so I know the effort behind making a game with it.

@god-colo yep, the game is made on Monogame. It is rough sometimes but gives more control over how exactly things work than something like unity with a lot of stuff already pre-made, so that why I like it!

I like the clean and effective pixel art, and I think the choice of audio goes well with it to create an eerie atmosphere; well done there.

I unfortunately couldn't save him in the end :disappointed: But I tried

Fun game. Quite challenging. My only complaint is adding some more spice to the shooting. It didn't feel like I was shooting something. Otherwise solid mechanics!

A keep them alive game!!!. Nice mechanics, cool atmosphere, and music. Hard too!!!. Maybe higher resolution settings for the short-sighted older people could be an improvement. Nice work!!

Really nice little game, music and graphics very nice. I wasn't very good at the game as I always ended up in the top middle room and the zombies would get me.

Nice game. Shooting is a bit slow when you encounter a lot of enemies, but otherwise great idea! Music is really cool and appealing to the mood of the game.

Simple yet genuinely interesting idea. I was actually surprised how challenging it got, and how much planning you had to do with the barricades/traps in order to protect the ally, I learnt the hard way that just dropping him inside an elevated room was not going to be enough. Couldn't find the readme.txt file with the credits for the audio, but isn't the music from a Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead soundpack ? If so, great reference here !

@whismirk forgot to put readme.txt in archive after updating, thanks for noticing. The song is Echoes of Time by Kevin MacLeod
