TamagotchIT by spyranteros

TamagotchIT is an endless reflex game. Your beloved Pennywise the Clown will ask you for his balloon, a kid or even his favourite sewer, so make sure you give him what he asks for!

I took the theme too literally, so you have to keep IT alive!

How To Play: When you see the cloud above Pennywise's head, click the correct button. That's all!

Ludum Dare 46 is my first attempt to make my very own solo project. I tried coding for the first time. Even though Audio is my field, I wanted to dare and experiment, so I focused on everything but audio! Please, any comments, suggestions and criticism are more than welcome! I know my game is very simple but I'm very proud I managed to make it from scratch!

I also had an idea to create Tamagotchi game for this event. That was my first associate with "Keep It Alive" theme. Finally, I thought the action will be too slow for rating quickly, but you found a solution.
It is nice someone else embodied this idea for the game.
Best regards!

I laughed a lot! I barely succeeded to have more than 3 points, I am too bad!

I love tamagotchi and I really liked this game! Very impressed by the fact that you did everything on your own!! very simple game, perfect for a game jam. you did well with the graphics and with sound... the game does get really hard as you only have a few nano seconds to click on the right icons tho! so I can't keep IT alive for too long :( sorry I killed him! well done!

Nice entry! I like reaction games, so I enjoyed your game very much! The humour is awesome too xD.

I would suggest just some kind of difficulty progression, like, for every 10 points the game gets a little sped up. I think it would make it even better! Got 123 points!

Fun little game! I do think it could use some pseudorandom generation though, I got balloon 5 times in a row. Amazing job for a first game!

Thank you everyone very much for your comments so far! Right now the difficulty slightly every round until it reaches a roof of 0.75 seconds. @eduardo-yukio You really nailed i! No wonder You couldn't realize the speed up!I will certainly sit down and improve the gameplay a little bit, this is gonna be a great exercise for me.

Improvements to be made:
1) Increase difficulty every, let's say, 5 points (this will also speed up the sound effect during the thinking phase so the player will eventually know it get's harder.
2) As @brendev suggested, some pseudorandom generation would really update the experience (flashback to the time I tried to test the spawn of the balloon and wouldn't get one when I needed it)
3) Maybe give a life eventually? Dunno.
4)Something that even I find frustrating is the fact that you can click the buttons during the game over instantly, as a result you may lose your score if you press a button too late since the game will restart. I'm thinking of adding 3 seconds cool down before making the buttons active.

P.S. All the balancing was made using a mouse, I later tested it with my phone and my graphic tablet and it was easier and more fun!

Nice and simple game! The graphics are very cute and the audio works well with them. I think having the buttons linked to keys on the keyboard would make for a better reflex game experience in this case, might just be me though. I like how you went outside your comfort zone on your first project, great job!

Loved your take on the theme, really unique interpretation. Simple game but its awesome that you dare to do the coding yourself, keep coding and as a programmer I hope you enjoyed it. Great work.

The idea is great ! It starts from a pun but ends up a short but whole game. Your dev is great for a first attempt ! You had only a few elements to implement but you did it very well.
The pixel art is well executed and the GUI and gameplay is straightforward and easy to comprehend.
You didn't see too big for your project and that's a great achievment for a first solo jam !

I would have added a music background like 8bit melody but for a first attempt at a whole project, this really is a bright result !

The name is well thought! Although the gameplay gets really fast repetitive it has something that keeps me playing. I wou;d love to see more mini games an more difficult tasks. Think about porting it to mobile as well!

Very cute! I think though after the first "fail" it didn't give me much time to respond for the other requests so they were immediate fails afterwards. other than that it was cute and very much to the tamagotchi esk. the graphics were very cute as well!

Clever game! It fits the theme well in many ways. Maybe a little faster at some point, but it's okay. We have also made a game using IT as inspiration haha, take a look if you want: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/keeping-it-alive-1

Well done!! I'm loving the pixel art animations they are too good :p This was a cool idea for the theme and as others have mentioned maybe some more game play elements to add to the fun as the player gathers more points, keep it up :)

Thank you very much everyone once again for your comments and for helping me surpass the 20 ratings! I have further developed the game and pretty much believe it's finished. I will upload the new version after the voting is finished. I have developed the following:
1) The game now has a menu.
2) It can track high score.
3) There is a 3 second countdown at the game over screen so you won't accidentally press a button a restart.
4) I made a healing feature which gives an extra life every 10 rounds.
5) The game now becomes harder every 5 rounds instead of every round and Pennywise walks faster the harder it gets.
6) I have decreased the waiting time and balanced the difficulty more so the game will be more enjoyable.
7) Also, the game now uses PCG32 pseudorandom generator instead of the standard randomize feature.
8) I have made an android build since I believe it is pretty fun with a touch screen.
9) Last but not least, you can use A, S, D or arrow left, down, right to press the buttons.

If you have any other suggestions for the new version let me know! Cause improving what is already there is an awesome training for my nooby coding!

Tamagotchi IT is so cute. The game ramps up way too much once you hit 4 points, pretty much you get no time to click.
