Hoops Paradise by GuaranteedTrainwreck

Hey kid,
welcome to Hula Hoops Paradise !
People come and go have a spin on the dancefloor, you look after them, how hard can it be ?
You can take breaks in the staff cabin if you like, but no trouble ok ?
I'm off for the day but I'll text you to see how things are going.
There's an infirmary here in case of minor injuries, and an ambulance in case of more serious stuff but careful, we only have one of these !
Good luck !
Boss

the concept is solid, though I would definitely have appreciated it if there were more feedback for your actions, maybe adding sounds to every interaction and highlighting objects the mouse is hovering over
@kassie-kitsune hey, (edit: I just checked the dancing plague which I can't believe I never heard of and it is absolutely fascinating ! Thank you for this !), main inspirations were a funny picture posted by a user before the jam started and the now retired Action Park in the USA (who was mostly known for being super dangerous and deadly). As for the feedback I agree a 100%, I actually managed to throw the sounds on the phone pretty last minute and was planning to do more but again, time constraints... Will keep you up to date on our future updates if you are interested !
@jk5000 it's kind of "all over the place" I agree, I do thing adding some feedback as mentioned before will help in that matter (not only sound but also text telling you what kind of 'bonus' or 'malus' happenned on the different stats), also bending the difficulty curve will hopefully allow the player to get used to things before ending up with a mountain of bodies !
Thanks for the feedback so far everyone !
When I played the game I laughed out loud by the choas this game brings haha. Texting your boss "that everything is ok" while you see people drowing in the background is somehow very funny to me.
My highscore is 97 seconds.
Some feedback:
+ It is a bit hard to play with a touchpad, when using a mouse it is a bit less hard.
+ I like how you have to search for the drowning person, I can imagine it is a bit like in real life.
+ The introductiontext you made seperate gave a lot of context with the situation the player is in. Maybe it would have been nice to add that introduction into first screen of the game itself.
+ I did not really understand the colors of the water, did I miss something?
+ The theme was very present in this one.
+ I liked the graphics very much. It all fits together very nicely.
Thank you for the feedback !
You saw right through me for the introductory part ! I did indeed plan to make a real introduction with the boss welcoming you on the job for your first day but had no time to implement it. So instead of doing nothing I put it in text form under the game ! Hopefully I'll add this properly in an upcoming update ! Same thing for the "introduction screen actually" this was slapped on the game pretty much last minute. Would've prefered a proper menu screen + tutorial section but hey 72 hours is NOT a lot of hours !!!
As for the "water" I'm afraid to say it was supposed to be a blinking dancefloor (kind of saturday night fever style) and people are Hula Hooping on top of it. I'm guessing it is perhaps unclear as you thought it was water ?! So in theory, so you have the intended picture, people get stuck in their Hula Hoop while dancing on this blinking floor, and eventually die if you don't help them. I'm guessing the beach theme and especially the style of the infirmary is very seaside based.. I'm curious (and scared) to know if other people were confused with this (so please people do comment if you found yourself confused !)
Thanks again !
had fun playing this, great job!
But overall nice game, I did several attempts and it got me hooked! It's a cool idea and the art style is amazingly cute! nice job :)
Not sure about the difficulty. I'm actually a fan of games not running too long - but the game starts really fast with putting pressure on the player.
Overall I like the game idea very much. But I think it would be more fun on a mobile game (I think right-mouse-button is not really needed and you could achieve everything also with a single click).
One thing is better feedback. I think there should be a better visual indication on the kids (in addition to sounds) when they're choking.
Also, the colors of the kids have a low contrast with the background, it would be better to use colors with higher contrast ([this might help](https://webaim.org/resources/contrastchecker/)).
I agree this would fit well as a mobile game. Good job!
I talked to some friends today and mentioned your game, they said it was funny because hula hoops where loops too. Is that the reason why you came up with this idea?
Also congrats on getting 20+ ratings
hey thanks ! It is exactly why yes ! We are literally talking about people stuck in Hula Hoops ;)
I see you've passed the 20 ratings too so congrats to you too !
@igor-kingamer
Thanks for the feedback and the link ! I am working on the post jam version as we speak, will post a link when done for those interested !
For parties interested I have been (and still am) working on a post Jam version of the game, taking into account your great feedback !
Here's the link : https://guaranteedtrainwreck.itch.io/hoops-paradise-postld
Major changes :
- The game is now left click only
- Coolness is not an endgame factor anymore, but gives you up to 3 heal bonuses
- Your boss will fire you only after 3 unanswered messages
- Every 2 deaths on floor, your boss will give you more ambulance space (if you answer his text)
- Chaos is gone, goodbye chaos
- (soon to be fixed) It goes on forever as long as you answer your boss
- There are a whole new bunch of visual and sound feedback
- There is a proper intro
- I have tweaked and tweaked again and am still tweaking the difficulty slope
Feel free to let me know what you think, if you enjoyed the changes or not, and if you encountered any bugs !
Cheers !
Damien
Thanks for playing, yes the endgame on one call missed was a bit extreme.. You mentioned buttons not responding, was that on the phone ?
Feel free to try the updated version, the link is in a previous comment !
Cheers
Damien
At times it felt that clicking the first aid or ambulance also didn't register but on the phone the buttons really did nothing and I couldn't close the phone so it was stuck on the screen.
After couple of tries I downloaded the game and the downloadable version seemed to work fine.
On what browser did you try the game ?
Could you perhaps try running the new version and see if you experience the same problems ?

Thanks again
Damien
Hey, now it seems to work fine and the UI was also clearer when you had the healing icon on mouse :)
I found couple of bugs now that I got longer in the game. One is that sometimes hula dancers would come on top of each other and another maybe bug that I couldn't use the extra ambulance space. It would take one person I click and go. Or does it come back faster?
EDIT: For the browser I have Chrome
EDIT2: Hmm... Now that I played it longer and got many ambulance updates, I could collect many people. Not sure if it bugged or if I just lost the ambulance upgrade before using it... But it makes hard to see suffocating people if other people is on top of them.
As for the several bugs you outlined, I am happy (happy ?) to report that I have found the source for most of them and am currently working on the fixes (hopefully after that and a few polishing touches we can call this done)
Thanks again for your helpful notes ! Will keep everyone updated when I push the update !
Cheers
Damien
And thanks for submitting your game!
