Rude Bear Gotchi by alexrose

When things are going well, you ought to just appreciate the life you have. Too much ambition can ultimately destroy you. Sometimes you just gotta let kids be kids if you want them to live life to the fullest.
If you stream this, leave it on screen view and not game view. You'll see why! It's pretty cool!
=== Controls ===
Click and drag, baby. Click and drag
=== Hints ===
I hear that raspberries and blueberries are healthier than other fruit.
I heard that birds really like to keep their feathers clean
I heard that some mushrooms are poisonous, but some are tasty
I heard that the end of the game is worth seeing
== What’s a Rude Bear? ==
This is the 24th extended universe Rude Bear game, and my 22nd Ludum Dare. It was made for Ludum Dare 48’s jam, under the theme “KEEP IT ALIVE”.

changelog: 21/04/20 11:09 - Hopefully fixed gamebreaking bug when you get attacked while eating food. Really hope it's true 22/04/20 06:48 - I believe I fixed a problem with Windows 10 where it was showing a system notification that was ruining a surprise, doesn't happen on Windows 7.

I like the art and the concept, although I didn't get too far since it got stuck on this expression. The bird and plants were still working, but the character was frozen in place.
the intro mechanic is mildly interesting but the actual cool part is when you reach his form
edit: nah it was that the check for whether you were dead and therefore it shouldn't evolve you into a new form was different from whether the check to make you actually die lol
I would like the game more if it was alive while I am actually working and stuff.
also how do you make a game like that in Unity. didn't know that you can do that...
my bear looked very weird when it got old. is this something that happens all the time?
@abdurrahman-khallouf lol it's funny because originally when I started making it and it was just a bear that rolled around, I left it on the screen all day. as I added gameplay it became too hectic and I had to move it off
@sheepolution thanks sheep <3
Sometimes putting poop on the crows felt kinda awkward, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to just stab them with it or drop it on them, as sometimes neither option would work. Either way I am now awaiting the rise of Desktop Buddy idle games.
This was fun, reminded me of some desktop toys in the 2000's. The turn from a cute bear into a disgusting monster was interesting. It would have been nice to have different ways to grow the bear if fed different foods. (And maybe that is the case but we only played it once!)
Great job!
The art was fantastic as usual, same goes with the sound effects. I did manage to keep my bear alive, though he was not much of a bear in the end :bear:, the ending itself was great!
Overall a great entry!
Anyway, this game was pretty clever, had fun animations, was a breath of fresh air in terms of concept/execution (something different done well) and was just fun to play. Look forward to the next Rude Bear! :D
Overall, great game! I had fun playing.
either that or you keep feeding it grey mushrooms and his own shit without realising it
edit: I'm sorry, I didn't want to offend you - I used the wrong words... "Still" was misunderstanding in this context. I like the games of Sokpop and thought you know them - if not you could have a look at their games (you might enjoy them). Again sorry for upsetting you...
it was an idea I had about a year ago after DanielCake made his desktop dancing hagrid on twitter and the theme fit so I was like, eh whatever
Works well, character art is good. I didn't get too far but I didn't run into any obvious bugs either, so kudos
Well done! Really makes you think why desktop games aren't explored more!
I played it on my stream and the VOD is here if you're interested:

often when I make games there is like a quintessential playthrough that I link people to when I'm showing my jam games, yours is definitely going to become the one for RBGotchi. Do you have a youtube channel too where you rehost twitch content? if not maybe I could post edit it a little and post it to my channel with a link to your stream?
Looking forward to playing your game this weekend too
