Stranded by Stormboyyy

[raw]
made by Stormboyyy for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Upon crashing into a mysterious, seemingly deserted island, you play as a character that follows clues in order to attempt an escape off the island. This game is riddled with mystery, such as the nature of the islands time loop, or any help you may be getting. Artwork by BelleArtsi.title.pngbgbeachwhouse.pngcrabzoom.png

I don't see a game link. Only source.

Wish it was hosted somewhere to make it easier to play

You should upload this game to itch.io, then people will be able to play it more easily!

Can you add a playable link to this?

For future reference, you've got to try and make the game more accessible. Imagine giving an average person with no prior knowledge of github this link and then you ask them to play it with no release published. People aren't going to know to download the source code and find the release in there or even how to do so.

The artwork is charming, but the sprite animations are pretty odd. I'm kind of at a loss on how to play or what to do.

It's a good attempt, but I can't call this finished.

Okay, found the boat and escaped from island. It is nice you added some countermeasure to ensure the player follows the clue in order. I had some fun solving what was the clue meant.

Also, for anyone looking for playable link while waiting the author to provide the link, use the source code link (yes, github). Then find the "ludum dare 47.zip" file. Then download it. After extracting it, have any software with capability to do localhost to run it, like xampp or bracket (bracket is the easiest). Or if you have nodejs installed, you can use " npx http-server -p" from command prompt. Yes, need some little knowledge on how to set up localhost.

sorry about the problem with the itch.io thing, i had a problem when uploading it and i lost track of time, then i thought it was too late to add something to my project, turns out i was wrong. (also i recommend not using full screen with the ich.io page, its kinda silly and stretches out, just align it to your browser or zoom out to play)

Getting some serious "Lost" vibe from this!
I had a bit of a hard time figuring out what I was supposed to do. Clicking on things did nothing.
The music fit well and the art style is very cute

Music and visuals are great. Controls are strange. I have to use the mouse to flip scene and also use the L to interact things. I could not solve the game. Good job.

It was a really nice game. It was cool to find clues in the order. Sometimes though it was hard to read or understand what the clues meant, but overall I had fun playing it, well done! Music is pretty cool for the type of game as well, and cool graphics

Loved the sounds and graphics but I had some serious problems with the controls - even after reading the instructions, it did not seem to match it. :/ But still a nice job!

ah sorry about the problems everyone's been having with the controls, "W to open/close doors" basically just means W to go through doors that you are standing at since they don't open nor close, "L click to interact with things" means left click on your mouse also. and @netmute if you look around you'll eventually find things to click on and the clues that they give you for the next interactive things. (if any of that made sense)

Hmm, either there's some wonkiness going on my browser or the game has very difficult riddles. The jump felt very off and I couldn't move to the second screen I would have expected to be past the big red arrow... But I really like the cute characters!

I liked the art (especially the crab) and the concept, but I struggled with the controls and figuring out how to make progress. Also liked the music!

I loved the very beautiful visual art, and audio too, I thought there should be more animations to better match the project, nothing that after a good review of the work will solve, congratulations for the project

Nice Artwork, and music. Really wanted to talk to the giant crab but looks like I couldn't interact with it.

The artwork is great, i just couldn't do anything! I don't know if i am dumb or what but i feel like clicking does nothing on the environment. But as i said maybe is me, the soundtrack is awesome and the graphics well done. Great job! :v:

@tauheed-game-dev @ds-nahogara well you guys arent dumb, it probably just wasnt obvious enough for the first clue, try clicking on the map in the house. also for some things you might not get anything by clicking it but keep trying and you might eventually click the right thing.

Very nice art style and good choice for the music. The ambient is very pleasant and I like the fact that you can choose your character. But I don't understand very well the loop with the timer. Is it just a restart? interesting the fact that you can change directly the screen with arrows but it would be nice to change screen with the character too. The jump seems to be not required (too small, with no feedback). The transition between screen is a bit weird with display. And it would be good to close the path after the crashed plane to avoid the character walking on water. The loop of walk animation is not working correctly. Sorry I could'nt do anything in your game. I just see on the plan that there's something to do with the big rock in screen 2. It would be nice to understand better what is interactive with feedbacks. But congratulation for the art & mood!

I think the rock hitbox was a bit too small -- I had to look into the game's source code to figure out where I needed to click! :stuck_out_tongue: But I did get to the end thanks to that!

A simple thing that would've made this a bit easier would be if the interactable elements changed your mouse to a pointer when you hovered over them. Or perhaps even a css hover effect? (I imagine doing something like `.element:hover { transform: scale(1.05); }`)

I would recommend getting some people to playtest the game during the game jam, it'll help you iron out some of the quirks and find which parts you need to make easier or clearer :)

Anyway, nice job with your first Ludum Dare game! Hope you can enter again next time.

Really like the concept of a game. I guess it will be a little better if you show the tutorial at the beginning of the game. Nice graphics)

Nice concept but like previous comments say, there are a few things I agree need ironing out such as making it a little clearer which objects you are able to interact with which can be done visually or through sound as well. The graphics were cute but a few more simple animations would have been nice to make it more dynamic and bring the game alive. I think the clues were a little too easy but I know it can be difficult to put together good riddles within the time frame of a jam. Not a bad effort overall though and it definitely has a lot of potential! Well done!
