Save The Reactor by Jarvisp99

[raw]
made by Jarvisp99 for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

A Quantum Physicist works on a Process of mobilization of a Charge Particle under some "Artificial Conditions" created by him/her. Due to a technical fault, the charge particle has gone out of control and is stuck in a room filled with thousands of Tesla Reactors.

Now, The Charge Particle has an initial temp of 30℃ which increases the reactor's temp 50% each second. Each Reactor's maximum temperature, that it can withstand is 1500℃, that means he has got just "10 seconds" to change the position of the Particle (from one reactor to another reactor) such that a Reactor does not blow up.

Nice game, I enjoyed it.
The music synth helps to indicate the pressure of the time limit.
The cursive handwrite on the notebook was hard to read but I found out how to play.
The gameplay itself seems randomized, so sometimes I thought I was going to fail because of chance which does not feel good, but in the end I found a way out and always there were at least two or three gaps that lined up for every power cell.
Thanks for the fun.

It has some pretty good gameplay though it feels a bit stale and unchanging besides at the start. It has some pretty good graphics but I kinda wish there were some sound effects that matched the intense synth playing. Stil a pretty good entry.

Defiantly a fun concept and felt myself on the edge a few times. The pressure of the time was a good way to scramble to get through.... great jam game.

Nice work! Agreed with the others on the time pressure. It creates a nice game feel. I think the visuals are pretty great too.

Overall a solid game with a nice game feel, the sense urgency was definitely well delivered by the sound and visuals.

Hey, just a heads up. I see you did not build the game and only added the project folder. I know there are some people on here who like to compile the game themselfs, but for a lot of people opening your project (Using the correct Unity version if they have it installed) is quite a lot of effort which makes people not play your game. Like me, I don't have the correct Unity version installed which is a problem for me since my internet is not that fast. (I know I could open it in another version but this might create problems which I don't really feel like solving).

Anyway, maybe next time build the game so people can play it quicker. Maybe even add a HTML5 version (you can host this for free in itch.io) :smile:

Okay, You have missed download label - you should add that is only source code in archive you put. Could you provide compiled version of this game?

Sorry, I won't download whole Visual Studio just to play this game. Would be nice if you could post compiled version.

@jarvisp99 Maybe what I said came out a bit too harsch, so... sorry for that. After playing, would be really nice to have volume control, game's just too loud. Camera should be zoomed out cause it's hard to see where you can jump. Also gaps in the rings should be more visible.

Okay:
- Game is too loud, and there is no audio control.
- Game is difficult, because is random (holes, in loops are to small)
- Nice graphic

@just-dante @szatku thank you for pointing these things out.....I actually thought the sounds can be controlled through the system volume so I didn't worked on that....But will take care of these things in future....thanks guys....for the feedback..

After playing the game (thanks for the fix) I have the following to say:
- As others have pointed out, the volume is indeed quite high.
- The game is quite hard, it's very difficult to time it right and it feels like the opening are too small. Maybe this game could have benefitted from different kind of rings which have different kind of openings (Like 4 way crosses, two sided, etc.) This would also need another movement system but maybe you can aim and shoot with the mouse or something like that.
- The audio itself is really nice!
- The menu's feel very well polished. I can see there is a lot of effort there!

I think it is quite unfair if the speed of the other reactors and yours is different, as you may not found any "door" to throw the ball to... But I liked the music and the game overall :smile:

I liked the music, fit the urgency. But the game is too hard

the entrance is clean, I really like scoring/endless games in general.

Negative points:
- the game doesn't really evolve over time.
- It's all very complicated
- I don't feel like I have any real control over events,
- the shooting windows are very short and very complicated to see

Positive points:
- the game is very clean
- there is a very nice mood
- The understands itself very well.

The opening screen is very strong and the music is good. Clear aim and it plays well.

Negative:
* Hard to see the openings and with the short time limit you just end up spamming until it goes
* Very random

Positive:
* Nice aesthetic
* Good music
* Fast paced gameplay
* Easy to understand what you're doing

Not a bad game per se, but I think the gameplay loop needs some rethinking

I just realized that the best strategy is to keep spamming LMB and hope for the best. Timing it is too hard to pull off

With that said, I can see that a lot of effort went into making the art of this game, so that's a plus

Overall, a decent game, but needs some redesigning

Keep up he good work

Reactor is perhaps the perfect fit for the theme of this jam. Stabilize the particle, infintely looped chain reaction. Was pretty fun too. :)

Hey the itch page gives me a 404 error
Almax
09. Oct 2020 · 20:08 UTC
I also get a 404 error on itch.io - make sure you've set your project's visibility to public - you can test it with an incognito browser window.

As for the game, it felt a bit too random. Most of the time I ended up getting frustrated and just firing the particle in any direction. I think having a rhythm to the windows of opportunities between cells would have made this game amazing - particularly if it was in time with the music. Graphically the game was engaging and the music was spot on. Overall good effort, looking forward to playing your next jam entry!

Good job on the game. I found especially the music, the graphics and the overall juice to be very good for the mood and the flow of the game. However, the core gamplay of the game can definitely be improved. I found myself waiting always for many seconds until I could pass the electron to the next container. You should try to make the gameplayer flow more, to benefit from the awesome juice.

If I have to be honest, the gameplay isn't really my cup of tea. I felt adding a goal besides just staying alive would have been more fun for me. However, I still think the basic concept has potential.

The presentation on the other hand, I really enjoyed. The music is very nice and you build a nice atmosphere. The game could use some more snappy SFX and VFX to make it feel more engaging but you're definitely headed in the right direction.

Overall, I enjoyed it, great job!

This game is completely in the theme. Good graphic and Good choice for the music. I like the base idea, and the simplicity of the control. But I find it a bit too much based on the luck of the availability of the open loops. Perhaps it would be nice to control something else? Like the direction of the loops?
