Aouf Run by shubart
A famous racing game demake.
Finish the race in the first half of the competitors ! The game contains 3 levels.
Advice: just stop accelerating for hard turns.

All assets are googled (and propably copyrighted for some).
But the game engine is mine:
The source is split in three parts:
- Ludum47: the game itself
- chaos: a base C++ libray, the core of the engine
- death: another library more dedicated for games
Otherwise i use the following C++ libraries
- OpenGL (4.5)
- Glew
- Glfw
- Irrklang
- Boost with MPL
- STL
- FreeImage
- Glm
- Tinyxml2
- Freetype
- Nlohmann/json
And
- TiledMap Editor
Sources are publicly given but due to some libraires dependencies, you probably won't be able to compile. Let me know if you want some informations relative to the code.

The game works great and looks good. Doing this kind of game was also one of my ideas for this jam 🏎
The collisions work fine, and the variety in opponents keep the game interesting.
I liked the music and visual elements reminding the first few zones of OutRun.
It is quite hard to go straight. I feel this is due to not being able to control the intensity of your turns.
Levels are also a bit simple, with only straight lines and 90° turns.
Thanks for the game!
Really enjoied this game especially the third map where it got quite tricky :D.
The slow down on collisions was a really nice idea.
It made be a lot more carefull about overtaking cleanly instead of just pushing the opponents out of the way.
The music selection was really great too, I'm still listening to it as I write this.
Would have loved to see a few more maps, good job guys!
"which windows do you have ?" Windows 7
"would you mind running an opengl extension viewer ?" Sure, no problem!
Two things hurt the experience for me. First, hard collisions when you veer off-track or hit a car (or a car hits you). This is a design choice, but I like having more control and a chance to recover from mistakes. The second, bigger issue is that keyboard steering is way too sensitive. It was very difficult to line up straight, which greatly increases your chances of oscillating and collisions that kill your speed. Maybe either lowering the steer amount or adding some damping would fix this?
Overall, this was super fun. If the frustrations were gone I would probably play a stupid amount of this game.
@twobitmatt : thank you very much. The stopping collision is effectively a choice of design. I wanted the player not to push other cars through their way. But i recognize that i should fix the direction sensibility issue. Thank you for your advices.
@spacestrawberriesstudio : thank you
As @twobitmatt mentioned, I also feel that the stopping collison when you veer off-track is not my favorite part of the game.
Apart from that I had my fun with this game. Good job.
