Power Flow Loop by shipster

[raw]
made by shipster for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

A weird puzzle platformer.

Define the loop of the power to energize your player.

Use the player to grab the pickup.

Tutorial:

  • When you start the game, you control the power laser.
  • Guide the laser towards the plug.
  • Once the laser reaches the plug, it will loop the path.
  • Then you will control the ball and you have to collect the pink pyramid.

Important points: - The ball can jump on the path created by the laser. - The ball loses energy (and size) constantly, until the laser reaches the plug again. This will charge the ball and it will regain its size. Hence, it can jump higher.

  • When creating the path, make sure to think ahead of what platforms the ball needs.
  • When touching the path, the laser will be reset to its starting point. This can be used to generate higher paths in certain areas.

Okay, so, first of all, this game is insanely beautiful. I assume that since you opted in to the graphics judging category that all of these assets were created in 48 hours which honestly... strains belief since they look so good. The game, on the other hand, I can only describe as confusing. Even with all the tutorials, I couldn't figure out what the heck I was supposed to do! I got the pink pyramid, and the game started over so... I guess I won? But anyway, the real strength here is the visuals, which are outstanding, so nice job.

It was a little confusing, but I like what you're going for. Maybe a more punishing punishment for touching the laid-down power line? It took me a moment to understand that the idea is to build the shortest loop that doesn't get in the way, to make the ball jump higher. Interesing ^_^

This style of game could make some interesting puzzles but unfortunately I got stuck on the second level so I'm not sure how well you did this :(

I didn't really get this one I'm afraid. The mechanics didn't make any sense to me. I didn't manage to beat the second level :s. The laser was very difficult to control precisely, and the laser resetting every time I touched the path made the results feel pretty random. Didn't understand why the ball's size needs to change either, but maybe that comes in in later levels.
Definitely high on innovation though :D I've never seen anything like it before.

Interesting game for sure! I definitely like the core idea and think it has potential, and I think with some tweaking it could make for a pretty interesting full-fledged puzzle game!

I like te idea of planning track ahead with additional tool. Unfortunately controlls had large delay before they reacted for each key press.

I enjoyed the game, but please, is here a possibility of less detail? I was unable to find any way to decrease the detail and my PC unfortunatly didn't manage to run it smoothly :(

It's an interesting idea, sadly I got stuck on the second level. I also did not experience a higher jump with a larger ball size.

I liked the game, the visuals are very beautiful, the objective needed to be clearer, so people don't get confused, I know it's difficult, but try to optimize the game because it has a very large file and as it has many games with smaller size people end up giving preference to them, I hope I helped, a big hug.

It's a pretty confusing game. I don't really understand (both from a story and gameplay perspective) why the laser resets everytime I touched the path. I thought I'm supposed to make a path for the ball, so shouldn't I be touching the path? But having the laser resets seems like touching the path is a bad thing. I sort of understand mechanically and story-wise why the ball changes size, but I didn't really like that aspect either. It seems like you're giving the player a way to manage their jumping ability and time remaining (which is definitely good game design) but I just didn't understand it. Really I just don't quite get the relationship between the laser and the ball.

I made it to level 3 though. Even though the mechanics didn't work perfectly for me, you took a risk with them, and I respect that. You should score high on innovation. Graphically, it's gorgeous. Good job!
