Smoothing things out by Shakedimus

[raw]
made by Shakedimus for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Local multiplayer game on the same keyboard. You both move around on a polygon. One player is stuck inside the other. Try to poke (with UP or W) an unprotected side to make the outer polygon closer to a loop or crush the inner polygon. The dotted corner will move out (or in) on your command, the two sides next to it block the corner jabs of your opponent.

Inner player :

  • A-D moves attacking corner and protecting sides around
  • W launches a corner outside to poke a side
  • You win if the external polygon has 10 corners

Outer player :

  • LEFT-RIGHT arrow keys moves attacking corner and protecting sides around
  • UP arrow key launch a corner inside to poke a side
  • You win if the internal polygon is no more (corners<3 don't produce a polygon) gameplay1.gif

For those confused by the lack of a description: it seems the game uses WASD to control one dot, and the arrow keys to control the other. A/D and left/right switch its position and W/S and up/down move it inwards or outwards, respectively.
I'm not sure if this game has a goal or is just a small tool to make interesting shapes. The name seems to suggest a goal, but I didn't manage to do anything to progress the game. I did play around with the shapes for a couple of minutes though :)

I'm not sure what/or if there is anything to do on this. Is it just unfinished/WIP?

@extar @eden-shazar After a very busy copule of days at work I've only just now come around to check my LD page , first I did not understand your comments but then I realized I hid the wrong file on itch when submiting :grimacing: . I've shown the correct file now and it should be more clear. Also I've added a description  It is local multiplayer though so if you have time and a friend maybe you can try it again.

Simple but having someone to play with, local MP this would be quiet challenge.

Good submission i guess but i can't rate it fairly since i dont have a a second person to play it with. The sound was horrible, super loud and static-y

Don't have anyone to play this with so I can't rate some of the categories, but I think this has potential!

This actually looks interesting! I like the asymmetrical multiplayer game play of manipulating shapes/polygons, very nice.

Unfortunately, I'm a sad, lonely person and have nobody to play with  . So I can't really give much feedback.

super basic concept, YET clever!
Really liked the Reaper-esque sound when getting hit!
I totally could see myself playing this for a few rounds with a friend... if I had any.

Very fun. I will rate it because my imaginary friend did like it too! (c'mon, we're indie devs, imagining a second player shouldn't be out of our creative boundaries!)

[I tried playing this by myself on stream last night](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/773934372?t=00h20m52s)

First and foremost, dawg...Dem sound effects are WAAAAAAAYYYY too loud and aggressive! Hot damn, I almost had a heart attack.

Once I turned it down though, I actually kind of liked the simple idea you have goin' on here. I wish I had an opportunity to play this with some friends so I could get a better sense of the strategy behind it, but I can see myself havin' fun with this one if I find the right people to play it with!

I also don't have another human to play with, and I always know what the other player is thinking!
But in all seriousness, this is a cool abstract game! It's always great to see something truly unique out there.

Luckily I had someone to play with and I must say it was a blast! Great idea that required a simple execution, reeeeally nice job. I just think that since the game is quite simple, some extra work could be put on the audio department and the graphics could use some extra work to make it more appealing and less linear transition (maybe a little bit of tweening to add some bounce to the animations and create a looping background to get rid of the tiresome white). Super fun game, please work more on it, we need an enhanced version

Interesting idea, the graphics could do with some work but overall a nice simple project!
