Simple? Tower Defense by shared
A concept as simple as tower defense can become very strange if you don't start with anything. You better pray for a miracle.
UPDATE NOTE: I have done a post compo update to fix some bugs, here is the change list: - Fixed being able to select a tower when you don't have enough coins for it - Fixed some tileset issues in map03, this fixes come layering issues and some tile variations not being used - Towers can't be placed on paths anymore in map03 - Fixed being able to place certain towers over another
This probably should have been part of in game dialogue, but the cannon tower shoots in all 4 directions in a straight line.
I am fairly satisfied with the game itself, but the later levels are a bit more rushed.
Also i didn't have the time to make any music, so I'll encourage you to play with your own !

@appoxgames You don't start the game with money for a tower, to fit with the theme. After the thunder kills the first wave though, you can build a tower
@congusbongus Thank you very much ! It was very hard to do in the time, so there's a few issues I missed, especially in the third level.
Oh, i see. But how do you continue the game after the thunder hits?
One bug o found was that i had selected a tower and then the lightning thing happened and i could not press next on the text box. Some sort of feedback from the game such as basic audio when clicking or highlighted buttons when hovering over it would have added a lot and made it feel a lot smoother to play.
It might be good if the first wave can be skipped when retrying the game, since we already know what will happen. (It surprised me in my first game though :D)
Oh man, I love tower defenses, made one too!
It took me a while to figure out how to place tower efficiently, I almost gave up after 3 failed tries. But then I looked at your screenshots, and understood how it works.
Slimes animation is very cute.
Black slimes a bit too slow to kill maybe?
"Funds did not arrive" made me chuckle :D
Completed all 3 levels, was enjoyable!
I also wish i had more time for sound design, but the last hours were a real rush to get the 3 levels out.
@chaosinism Thanks a lot ! And damn I agree, skipping the first wave should have been a thing, I saw those first waves a lot during testing lmao.
- you can place towers on the road
- web sprites will be spawned below the road sprite
- waves end before all enemies are killed
@spthiel Thanks for the feedback, but yeah, I ran out on time near the 3rd stage, so it has quite a few annoying bugs. I plan on correcting a few, but I'm kinda clueless about why the waves end early on that level, it doesn't happen every time even, this will take quite a bit of investigation. Thanks again for the compliments !
The only thing I missed is an indication in which direction/how far a tower shoots *before* placing it.
I also found some minor bugs, like bullets colliding with each other and being able to place towers on top of each other.
@spthiel It is somewhat intended, as I made bullets physical objects

@purpledartfrog Thanks you very much ! And I'll be honest, I scared myself quite a few times with the lightning during testing, as I wouldn't really watch the screen during the first phase
P.S. The beginning was a little too long I think. I thought I was doing something wrong or that it was broken. The idea was really cool, starting with nothing and getting money from a lightning strike. But maybe speed the enemies up or something.
@adamk33n3r Thanks ! I'm happy you like it. Although yeah, I could have made the beginning faster, but having it be like that was better for the surprise I think. However, this kinda sucks if you have to restart the first level, and I had to do that quite a bit in testing, to make sure the balance was decent enough
Funny narrator as well, and I like a lot how the field gets all messy at the end of each stage, especially the third one ^^' (Although I was frustrated to not know the effect of the upgrades ^^')
@grhyll I'm very happy you liked it, thank you very much. The narrator was fun to make, and I know it would be nice to see the effects of the upgrades, but time really went short
