Click of Ages by Joel Davis

[raw]
made by Joel Davis for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

Inspired by the board game Tapestry and cookie clicker, this is my attempt to make a Civ style clicker game.

Civ-click1.jpg

It's not complete, but it's playable and you can see how much of the map you can uncover. Don't forget you can build scouts and outpost on unexplored squares.

This was a lot of fun!

EDIT: If you tried running it and got a crash at startup, try it again. I think I fixed the problem.

Hmm yeah it crashes for me on my other laptop too. Looks like there's a problem, I'll try and troubleshoot it soon.

Hey @elinks and @koemeterion , try downloading it again, I think I fixed the crash. It was a really, really silly problem: I was dumping out the hexagon mesh as an OBJ at startup for reference, and I forgot to disable that for release, so it didn't have the path to save it to (but it worked fine on my dev machine of course which had the path). Hahah.

I have never played Tapestry but clearly you nailed the *Civ style clicker game*. Of course it gets a bit repetitiv (cliker oblige) once you have completly build a few hex but i could not stop until I bought everything !

More polished I could really see this game on Apple Store/Google Play as a mobile game

wow @elinks that's dedication! Amazing. I'm already working on a post-compo version that you can clear the barbarians so you can get those last few hexes. :)

I like idle games, just not that much clicker games but I can see potential here. This isnt a hard game or anything but as a player you make progress really quickly in this version. Probably to quick but for a LD version its totally fine. As @elinks already mentioned this could be easily on one of the appstores to entertain some people. Obviously more features would be needed, but that shouldnt be a problem. Maybe the biggest issue at the moment is the lack of variety and the fast passed progress. Still a great game and I hope you can bring the to live in the future.

The game creates a process but don't open :( The screenshot and idea seems so nice. If you need more information or if you make another patch about this issue please let me now!

Fun and silly little game :)
Really liked the Boardgame-like aesthetics. Sad to see the barbarians didn't make it to the final game :P
I was a bit confused as to what to do at the beginning, but after that it was pretty easy. Because upgrades didn't go up in cost or anything it was just a matter of trying to buy all the things.
Fun experience :)

my finger is sore -- you need to create an autoclicker resource that goes on the map -- nice entry
