"Dreamer" - Ludum Dare 45 Submission by BunBoi

[raw]
made by BunBoi for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

Hey guys! Worked on this with a friend over the 3 days. This is our first game jam so we are still quite amateur when it comes to development.

As such, the game is quite rough around the edges (no chekpoints (I do apologize in advance for that. Really wish we figured that one out in time : ( , some jump bugs here and there, little bit awkward movement) but as a first attempt for the both of us we are quite happy with the result.

We also hope that you enjoy our IMPECCABLE voice acting (please don't judge, we wanted to have fun with that) and apologize for the lack of any ambient music and potentially annoying sounding footsteps.

Just in case I somehow managed to mess something up with this upload and the download link doesn't show. Here is the download link: https://bunboi.itch.io/dreamer

The style reminded me of 3D platformer i used to play as a kid.

It seems like a good start to something interesting, but I was really struggling with the movement controls. It was really difficult to make small adjustments.

@nisovin Thanks for the feedback! yeah that was something we were trying to figure out before we had to submit (busy schedules and what not) so unfortunately we ran out of time. That is definitely on the list of things to fix once we work on this again though.

Sadly the second / the real first level was too hard for me. The main problem I had, was that you're character continues to move forward in air, when no button is pressed, otherwise the controls are good!
Yeah an easier introduction would have been nice for me.
I like, that there are footsteps and jumping sounds, they help for the immersion.

The controls are a bit floaty, but I had a ton of fun trying to beat the levels. Didn't manage to get to the end, but found a neat shortcut right to the left on the starting area where you can strafe past the wall and skip the entire first room. Didn't feel like it fit the theme all that much but I loved it none the less. Overall 5/5, Fun 5/5, Innovation 1/5, Theme 1/5, Humor 4.5/5, Mood 4/5.

Love the sound effects and tutorial at the beginning, maybe a bit too difficult for my taste but other than that good job!
