Wanderings of a High School Boy by 2 Odd Diodes

It was a pretty hard theme. We tried to spin the "You Start with Nothing" by taking away any context or objective from the player. We tried to keep the story subtle, but I dunno how well we did. (We kept finding weird glitches here and there)

Thanks for checking this out!

I absolutely loved the aesthetics of this game! I enjoyed the story, too, and the subtle social commentary. I'm not 100% sure I understood the story right, though, and I'll need to play this one more time to see if there is an alternative ending. Overall, great job! Perhaps you could add some music in the post-compo version to make it even more atmospheric.

@xlomid Hi! Thank you so much for playing. Unfortunately, there isn't an alternate ending. We wanted to put one in, but we ran out of time, so there's only a subtle difference in the endings. And maybe not music, but we definitely want to add ambient sounds in the game. Again thank you for playing! :)

Wow really impressive artwork and atmosphere. Must admit I got stuck, tried to give the toilet guy food, but there wasn't anybody there and basically all the NPCs disappeared :( Wonder if you considered increasing the walking speed or implementing running?

@snesgaard Him disappearing was by design. (You are supposed to go to the end of the 3rd floor afterwards). I agree, the walking speed kinda is slow. I'll see what I can do :(

Super great artowrk! The main protagonist reminds me of a gloomy version of Kinro from Dr.Stone when he has Suika's melon hat on. Maybe speed up the walking a tiny smidge, but other than that you made a great game I enjoyed!

Artwork is amazing, an appropriate music would have been cherry on cake. Loved playing it.

Very good art design, my only complaint would be it takes too long to get between rooms, as exploring them all was important.

Well done!

@raphiell I agree, we should have had a higher walk speed :( And thank you for playing! c:

I found everything amazing!
now it's kind of boring the character's speed
got boring the second time, wanted to see the final 2
and so I don't know if there are 3 endings, I didn't want to redo everything to see one more end
Great job!

Art is good and the shadow rendering is cool, but the gameplay is a bit slow (especially for a jam.) I also noticed a small bug. The camera stops moving when you walk too far off the right / left, however the player will not stop moving and just walks off the map.

Amazing artstyle and animations, the shadows add a very nice touch. I really wanted to experience more of the story but the end (?) felt very abrupt. After it restarted the game I didn't know if I had to continue or stop, I stopped because I didn't want to spend too much time replaying the game for nothing :/ Still a very nice entry, congratulations!

@endssgamesstudio @lucien-catonnet Thanks for the compliments and yeah we realized the walk speed is very slow :( we probably could've taken out an entire floor too. We should've held the fade to black longer. On replaying I can see how it implies there's more to it. Unfortunately there's no alternate endings, only slight dialogue difference at the end. I would've liked to put atleast something, but time ran out, in fact we cut it really close even with this :(

@spacialseasoning Hi! Can you remember on which floor you encountered the bug? And yes, the gameplay is quite slow :(

@2-odd-diodes I didn't test all of them, but I did test several and could walk off of the screen on all of the ones that I did test.

I love the stepping sound effect

the lights and the bells in the beginning work well to set the mood

the shadow effect is niiiiice

the animation of the main char seems cute, but the scenario is creepy, which is a combination i always love

this feels a lot like "Deception", one of my favorite psychological horror games out there

the characters animations are smoooth and the lack of sound really set an unique mood

I got stuck in this part for some reason, no matter what I click or type or do, nothing happens, I see the text "i am grateful for the janitor, he treats me with kindness"

Great artstyle and atmosphere. Love the animation and head bobbing, though I did find the smudges on hands a bit odd (especially as they created shadows on the wall).
I enjoyed the ending, but didn't want to walk through it again, as the speed of the game unraveling started wearing on me the first time through
