Blind by ukirain

[raw]
made by ukirain for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

This is the quest game, telling a story about a blind boy called Po, who lives with his caretaker Ora. Po lived happily and peacefully and, all in all, enjoyed his life, until once he got lost and gained the eye-signt. The world he was living in turned out to be something completely different from what he imagined. From now Po is going to find the truth about himself and the reality around him.!

FOR MAC OS: (thanks @antti-haavikko ) cd MacOS.app/Contents/MacOS chmod +x LudumDare45 ./LudumDare45 Or, after that chmod the .app works too. So it indeed was the missing +x, just not in the correct “file”.

The art style for your game is beautiful, i love it and the game concept sounds really sweet. Any chance you could export this to mac, linux, or web?

Cool idea. I like the aesthetic. There were some missing English translations and I couldn't get the right bottle. You should be able to compile for HTML5 so it can be played in a browser. Good work!

Nice game, I liked the atmosphere of the game and the ideas in it, with some more content and polishing it could become a really good game.

Cool game, I loved the art style and the music but not so much the talking sounds. Some translations are missing as you probably know, making the game a bit hard to follow, but I liked the concept. With some polishing this one has some premise.

Some text in the english version is in russian. I got stuck shortly after playing. The vector drawings are cool

Pretty cool game. Missing translations made it a bit hard to follow, but that's forgivable considering there are translations at all. The art style is creepy (which I love), and so is the whole tone of the game from what I gathered. I got stuck not very far into it trying to give the shopkeeper the red bottle. I couldn't figure out how to interact with anything. Are there controls I might be missing?

Your game has an amazing art! I also love the sound effects! And your ideas are pretty good!
I really enjoy it, just sometimes I was a little confused - because even when I take english some part of dialogues was in different language (russian?).
It's unbelieveable how people are talented to make something so big in a short time :D

Interesting concept and great art. I did have some issues with the character convulsing left and right once stopped.

Music is great and story is funny. The character was gliching (lokking left/right super quickly) in the street. good job !

The narrative design is quite curious. Art style fits very well with your intention to convey certain feelings. In general it's very well done in all aspects. My congrats fellas! :D

Love the idea and the game itself is also interesting. I really admire that you managed to make the game in two languages, kudos for you guys!

It looked cool, but the gameplay felt a bit boring for me. For the puzzle I just randomly clicked around for a while and it suddenly got solved. I also had the same character flicker issue as Guardaro.

Nice story!

positive points:
The art is very simple and beautiful. The music and SFX are well made and satisfying. It's a pretty good game, but ...
negative points:
There are many dialogues. It's boring to read most of the time and have very little action.
neutral point:
What a bizarre story!

Congratulations for the game!

The game art is very well done and suited to the premise. The computer text wasn't working properly so I didn't understand the puzzle... I won by clicking randomly. I liked the mystery the game gives and wasn't expecting the end! Kudos to everyone involved and it's very impressive seeing a game in two languages!

XD I loved the ending. What do you do when you're faced with a horrible monster? Hug it :D

The art is great and the music is really nice as well, but some of the dialogue boxes are a bit painful to hear on the ears. Which I guess makes sense for the monster, but it is a bit grating. It was a fun story to go through, thank you ^^

@antti-haavikko , @daniel-jenikovsky we are still looking for a solution. You can still run through Chmod +X.
sorry for this, our team doesn't have mac
and we spend much time to fix this problem

@antti-haavikko, "./MacOS.app" in terminal does work?
If no we’ll continue to search a solution... :cry:

That doesn't quite work because apps on mac are actually folders. But this does...

```
cd MacOS.app/Contents/MacOS
chmod +x LudumDare45
./LudumDare45
```

Or, after that chmod the .app works too. So it indeed was the missing +x, just not in the correct "file".

After all this trying to get it working and seeing the pretty pictures, I can't help but feel a little bit disappointed. Wasn't bad at all, don't get me wrong but I was just hoping for more of a game really. It ended up being just a (very slightly) interactive story and story only games aren't really my cup of tea. And the whole story wasn't really my cup of tea either. Or it could have been but it was so short that I couldn't really get invested in the character or his motives at all so the ending didn't really mean anything to me.

The only kinda gamey bit, the bottle quest was also kinda ruined by some weirdness. When I clicked the computer, nothing happened at all. When I walked to right edge, he said something but half of the speech bubble was off screen so no clue what it did. And even when "handing the bottle over", it was still on the shelf. Maybe I should look way too deep into the story and think that Po didn't give that guy the bottle after all... :thinking:

![atat.png](///raw/1e4/3/z/29277.png)

The "monster" speech sound really reminded me of Mettaton from Undertale and some other voice (maybe the bottle guy) sounded very similar to Papers Please speech. The art style I digged even though there was super little of it. What was it, like four screens and one character from two different angles. Oh yeah, the monster too and final image. Still not that much. I really like the palette of Po, really makes him pop from the background. Maybe even too much on the dim and monochrome screens (others than the light up store which composition wise looks :ok_hand:).

And by the looks of your screenshots, the russion version font looks like hundred times better and more fitting for the other game aesthetic. The english one (or at least the one on mac version) looks, well, not great and really sticks out and not in a good way. And there were some instances where the text didn't fit inside the speech bubble.

Anyways, good job!

Oh and by the way if you wanna make the mac instructions more readable, use triple backticks...

Your storyline might be weird and the game lacks of interactivity while being very short, your graphics and narration are great. Good job!

Nice art and story! Good entry. Dialogues are nice despite the fact that they are translated. The game is really short. There are some inconsistencies in art and text.

Wow this was a really creepy game! I totally thought Ora was going to be a robot or something but that was even better. I was a bit lost on the part where I had to grab the bottle but I just walked back and forth a few times clicking randomly and somehow got it. The text looked kinda strange and the translation was a bit rough in some parts but I understand it's a translation, so with that in mind it wasn't bad at all. It kinda made it feel even more strange and unnatural (in a good way, like with the scary atmosphere) so that's good. Overall the art style and story here was super interesting, great work!
