RGB Zero by BoneVolt

[raw]
made by BoneVolt for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

-- GAMEPLAY

A puzzle platformer. You can only touch things that share a RBG color with you. You start black. You can touch nothing.

Try to pick as many coins as you can. The boss wants your coins.

You start with nothing: no coins, no colors, no collision.

-- CONTROLS

Arrow keys to move

Z/X to jump

Enter to pause/menu (restart game in this menu)

-- BOSS

You don't need to attack the boss, just evade his attacks. His HP decrases with each attack.

-- BUG FIXES

  • Fixed a minor visual bug when getting hit by a shot.
  • Fixed the boss doing 50 attacks even if you didn't collect 50 coins.

Awesome game! It took me a while to realize that there was more than just RGB (there's the blends too!). I haven't thought about the basic color combinations in a long time :joy: I beat the game on my first try with 44 coins

Fantastic game. Found a bit difficult to understand how to beat the boss. Fantastic idea anyway!

I'm always amazed at what people can do with PICO-8. This was such an awesome entry. Simple concept yet providing for some very interesting puzzle/platformer. Love the music and arcade graphics / feel. Game has nice replayability as well. Awesome job!

@cornettheory Thanks!

@frenchie Thanks for playing! That's a good score!

@mattias-cibien Thank you! You don't beat him, he beats himself ;P (he loses 1 hp each time he attacks). Now that you mentioned it, I should have made it more clear through some visual feedback :)

@karlipoppins Thanks for playing! Glad you liked!

Very cool idea! Even though the rules are basic I found it a bit confusing because there was so much to keep track on at the same time. Kind of felt like you are dropped in at level 10 or something after having skipped all the basic intro levels where all the concepts slowly are introduced to you :) Not really a bad thing but it takes a while to get the hang of things. Great job overall!

Great concept, the game looks really cool and has an incredibly cool oldschool feel to it. I highly suggest you try out a few games to get your smart balance up, it would be a shame if your entry goes unnoticed!

@gurbx Yeah, I feel that way too! I think it's part of the charm of some jam games, kinda like old Nes games. I will definetly make some simpler levels on the post-jam version. At least in this version there's no hazards/enemies, so you have all the time you need to figure things out. Thanks for leaving feedback!

@williwiderstand Yup! Doing that right now :) Thanks for the kind words!

This was super cool! Really loved the graphics, the retro sound, and the colour addition/subtraction mechanic.

I'd say if you were to continue developing, start with just primary colours, then maybe work up to secondary/tertiary, maybe.

The boss was cool! Awesome job for a compo game, amazing creativity.

It's an amazing and interesting level. It's great to create such excellent levels in plus, minus and color. I learned a lot about level design. It had a good effect on me.

@johnnysix Thank you! That's my thought process too! I will add easier levels post-jam.

@gamefive Thanks! That's really cool!

Really nice game.

The mechanics and controls are really cool, but i could not go very far, sorry, really bad player.

The graphics and sounds are really neat and provide a nostalgic feel, i guess courtesy of the PICO-8.

Excellent job!

Good game! Really cool mechanic this one of changing the scenario based on what you press, and it really fits with the rgb theme. Rally good job!

That was quite a lot to take at once at the start, lol. There wasn't much difficulty progression, but after a little time everything came together nicely. The final puzzle was fun although I solved it with a little bit of luck, also I beat the boss without being sure what I really should do. So yeah, my feedback would be that maybe it would be good to add some clarity or tutorial to it. Besides that a fun little game!

Excellent idea, well executed. I hadn't read the instructions so at first I thought the falling through the world was a bug! Aaahhh this the kind of creativity that always eludes me come LD time!

Pretty nice game, the gameplay idea is pretty neat! I think this could be developed way further into a full blown game. Good job!

Love the concept of mixing colors. Very well made too - graphics, sounds, music, boss. Had fun playing it.
