Merge 'em Wars by Call_me_Nutty

[raw]
made by Call_me_Nutty for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

Banner.png A game about trading and merging your cards to cleverly to beat your rival and claim card player dominance! The game is fun, innovative and relatively simple and easy. I recommend you play through a second or third time to see how your fortunes may differ! Finish.png

How to Play

Explained in-game :)

Controls

  • Space - Advance to next day
  • M - Mute/ Unmute
  • Everything else is with the mouse

Known Issues

- Initial intro screen says that the game takes place over "5 days" when it actually takes place over 7. - Cards don't properly go over each other. - Rival doesn't get a blank if he won the previous day. - Rival makes certain unintentional decision (not going to spoil it).

Quite an enjoyable game. It took me a while before I fully figured out what to do. Starting off the game with a big wall of text is usually not the best way of explaining it. Also the audio got me really confused, as it sounded like someone was clicking in the background. I had a blast playing it though. Great job!

Nice game, the music fits well ! It took me a while to understand the UI(especially the trading part) and the game, but then i had a good time ! Good job !

This is a really fun game, you have also fit quite a lot of content into a game made in such a short amount of time! I thought that the merging system also worked really well, and the audio was really good, I was a little confused about the trading system but other than that overall this is a really good jam entry!

@black-flag Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! :)
I was really fearing the UI design of the Traders being confusing to the player (even I found it confusing at first but shhh), but that's definitely something I'll work on in future iterations.

I tried myself on a card game last time, made it kinda too complicated. You kept it simple for such a short time. Good Job on that. The graphics are better than mine last year but still nothing award winning :D The audio was great. I got a clean 3:0 victory :sunglasses:

I kept trading with the old lady while the bratty kid always traded with the familliar plumber xD

The concept its really good and has good potential! I love the mechanic of merging the cards to get new ones!! The only thing, as they said, is that the trading system is quite confusing, as I couldn't really understand with which criteria are you exchanging cards. But good job!

Nice game! I think the UI need more visual and sound feebacks. It took my some tries to understand how trading and merging works (for example, it's not really clear if it's your turn or your opponent turn to trade).

The merging and combat system works very well.

This was a fun game to play. I won 5:2. Getting the DX card felt like an accomplishment, but it also seemed like merging cards had the tradeoff of losing a bit of health and attack power for speed. Must have been a lot of fun to make! Congrats on the submission.

Simple and effective! I played twice, winning 2:0 and 2:1. It was interseting to anticipate opponent moves and choose cards with strategy for the battle. Good job!

@chocolat-endive Thanks for the feedback :), I was working on trying to improve the presentation of the game but all my ideas were just a bit out of scope with the time I had left. Big improvements to be made in coming versions!

@tohubohu I thought someone would point this out eventually, balancing the game was certainly interesting, I had to try and even out making merging actually worth it and not making them so powerful that your opponent lags behind for the next two or three days. I have a solution for a future version though.

@lereveur Glad you enjoyed it! :)

Fun game, but I didn't understand trading at all. I started with blanks and got better cards from the trades. But overall fun and easy to play

Pretty good game. Trading was a little weird at first, I thought I'd be able to combine things of different types to create new cards, but could really only merge cards of the same types. Game play loop was smooth, graphics were nice, and overall I enjoyed playing

Very interesting concept where the deck building is more important than the actual game. Took me a little to figure out how it was played, the tutorial helped a lot. Maybe I give it another try and see if I can win properly (and take the time to read all the funny descriptions on the cards) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2u3BIVgcKdQ
