We have Nothing! by mira

[raw]
made by mira for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

Our first LD entry ever! We've had a blast making this. We had around 36 hours to make this, so we have to submit a bit early. With not much of game-dev experience and close to zero artistic skills, we are happy with the results. It was great experience and we are already looking forward to next LDJ.

CONTROLS:

  • Typing - keyboard
  • Movement - 'W' , 'A', 'D'
  • Movement of Platforms - Arrow keys
  • Restart of level - 'R' (Only available in game later on)

Good, but the screenshake every jump or whenever hitting the side of something is a bit overkill.

Liked the minimalism. The humor of the messages is really fun! Great job! Just expected the white cube to move together with blue one.

This game is so nice and simple! The interactions are amazing, the music is calm and not distracting from the game and the minimalist graphics are awesome! Good job!

That's some solid entry for a first time! I absolutly loved the gameplay mechanics and humor you put in your game! The music is discreet and fits the game very well. Last level was challenging without giving an headache, so it was just fine! I wish there were more levels!

+1 for the breathing animation you made for a white square

I loved it, some nice screen shake for the "THUMP" landing added weight to the character. Not sure if the "super jump" was a bug or a secret though

Woho i completed it! The puzzles were fun, specially the last one had me going. Well done! Some feedback i can give is that the blocks movement and the players movement could be smoother. Btw before i forget, really good intro and tutorial!

I felt the music got redundant but I enjoyed the puzzles, humor and it fit the theme nicely.

Thanks for your feedback. We are happy you liked the game!

@plazmaz Yea, the screen shake is a bit too much looking back at it, haha. Thanks for your feedback!

@bolsi Thanks for your feedback. We tried to move the cube along with the blue platforms, but we thought the game was too simple like that. 🙂

@rolly Thanks for your feedback! Sadly, there was no time left for more levels. It was the last thing we made. Thanks for noticing the breathing animation, we thought nobody’s gonna notice that! 🙂

@gaz-ireland Oops! Let’s call it a ‘secret’! 😀 Thanks for your feedback.

@walaber @appoxgames We are happy you liked the intro! Almost had no time to make actual game because of that. 😀 Thanks for your feedback.

A cool puzzle game with some neat mechanics. I for one, actually liked the screen shake, I thought it felt cool. I did expect my character to move when standing on a horizontally moving platform, especially since it moves up and down just fine. I also wish there were some sound effects.

I confess i laughed loud once i saw what it was about, best take on the theme so far, this was so fun to play ... the minimal soundscape is also not bad

Cool game, that last level was hard and when I made arrow unblock the path to the end I just fell in a pit!!!
This game is fun and theme fitting, I'm speechless!!!!

Love the narrator! I included it in my Ludum Dare 45 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/aEgrmplySyU

@velvetlobster Haha glad to hear that! Thank you!

@aret24 Thanks for your feedback! I'm sorry you fell in that pit, but you know - somebody has to feed the pit monsters!

Surprisingly fun game! Really liked the variety in the puzzles. Instructions were clear and consistent, which is rare, but great to see in LD. The graphics are simple, but well designed. The cube breathing was kind of cute. It did seem the block would slide off the edge sometimes, even after it had stopped. The jump shake is kind of neat. Maybe it's just me, but I thought it could be delayed just a smidge after the jump. But that's really just nitpicking. Great entry, especially for keeping everything very simple.

Wow really great game! I really liked the narrator. The first levels feel like a tutorial. The particle effect on the jump is nice. I found out that you can make a big jump with w and space pressed together. So I could easily finish the last level. ;)

The idea with the arrows is really nice! Music could have been a bit more diversified, but I enjoyed playing it a lot :)

Nice execution on the formula of adding game mechanics when game progresses. At first i thought this would be a typing game. Could have been mix of typing game and platformer.

I like the idea of moving platforms besides the player. Arrows on the platform remind me of good ol' Super Mario Bros 3.

Music is kind of repetitive. Game also could also some sounds for feedback. I personally like the camera shake feedback on jump. This would go well with juicy jumping sound.

Graphics and colors are minimal, but working well.

Nice entry overall. Well done!
