Seven Dwarves Brawl by pfeyffer

What a curious name for a card game! Try to not score any points.

Game Hints - With a score of seven or above you lose. If you make it through the entire deck of 35 you win. - If you get a pair with any hand you score points equal to the cards value. A dwarf is worth 8. - You can fold for the value of the smallest card. - If a dwarf card has been dealt you may fold without scoring any points but you draw one additinal card.

Design Process I started with a physical prototype to figure out working game mechanics. The programming started with some crude placeholder art which got gradually more refined towards the end of the project.

Target Platforms The game works in any browser and has been tested on various Android and iOS devices. There is a glitch when rotating the device while cards are being dealt.

Tools used Sublime Text, Adobe Illustrator

Beatiful, need to indicate how many cards left in the deck

The card animation is smooth. I tried to make card games before as well and never achieved this effect as good as yours :)

It's a good card game, it plays fast and smoothly. I didn't understand the rules, though.

Not usually a fan of push-your-luck games but this one's got a few interesting twists; I especially like the ability to fold for an extra card with a dwarf out. Animations and art are great. I'm with Tacokhun that it would be nice to see how many cards are left in the deck.

I agree with everyone about showing the number of cards left in the deck. It also seemed that folding constantly was a pretty good strategy. Some sounds or music would have added another element. I did have fun flipping cards, though.

Very smooth animations, I didn't like the colors though. Some sound effects or music could have made the game more enjoyable.

Interesting card game. Didn't understand the rules at first, but picked it up after losing a few rounds. Good work!

@zwodahs The game is actually meant to be played on mobile devices :-) It has some issues when rotating the device while cards are being dealt. But other than that it should work.

Fun game! I was confused at first, but got the hang of it. Unique rules for a card game. Did you make them up? I like all the animations and card design - very clean looking game.

@arithipathic Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the game :-) Developing a working rule set was indeed the hardest part. I did not calculate any statistics, so the rules might not be that good. I just printed out a bunch of paper cards and tried different ideas and combinations, actually with a group of about four players in mind. The dwarf cards were added about three hours before the submission deadline. That happened for two reasons: Without the dwarves the deck is only 28 cards and it plays a little too quickly. And I wanted to give players more choice.

Quite easy (once you understand the rules) but fun game, and the graphics are really nice!

I love cardgames and it's cool that you could play irl with a couple of decks of card. The graphics are very nice and coherent, specially for a compo entry. Really nice interpretation of the theme

Pretty neat! Really like the visuals, nice and clean, runs well, starts quickly =). I feel I didn't have many interesting choices when playing - usually ended up winning because the dealer kept getting unlucky, or losing because I drew two dwarves in my first two cards when clicking "fold+draw" ^_^.

Really nice card animation. Great job prototyping and coding this up. I love the approach of trying to make a new but unique card game. Very innovative.

Really nice and simple card game (a very good thing especially for a jam game where complex rules can really distract the player)!
Fun gameplay and very nice card animations!
A excellent polished entry for LD!

The rules confused me at first. I think the difference in the player and the dealer could be explained more. I am also confused by the definition of a pair, if both players have the same card does that count? Who gets the points? What happens to cards in hand when a pair is drawn?

But the interface is pretty good and I managed to win on my second play by folding for 0 or 1 when possible and drawing otherwise.
