0 to 100 by TheMoonrise

[raw]
made by TheMoonrise for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

sadly my team mate got sick right before the jam, so here is my first solo entry:

Show of your math skills in this fast paced dungeon crawler

In 0 to 100 you fight numbers and other mathematical operators.

Make them join your party, if they increase your score and chase them away otherwise.

balls.gif

Battles take place in short minigames that test your skills with the mouse and your mind.

The goal? Reaching 100 of course!

So, what are you waiting for? I'm looking forward to your feedback!

Have fun! ~Moonrise

This is super well done. The pacing feels slow at times, and one of the minigames insta-failed me because the bad thing spawned right under my mouse, but other than that this is solid!

Very clever.

Next time you could use some anticipation for the ennemies : hint where they are appearing by making dotted ones appear seconds before the real ones so that the player doesn't stay at there spawn point or (in the case of the moving square) outside its boundaries ... (so that he doesn't loose a life for nothing).

Except that, very nicely done. Did you make the music yourself?

There is a lot of good stuff going on in this game. It's so punishing to lose a large score to a divisor, though. I was tasked with calculating 83 % 17 while also knowing the swapped and hidden locations of the answers, which is...quite difficult.

Thanks for the feedback @thechemist, @pl4typus and @triplefox !

You are right, some anticipation could help. However, nothing spawns right in the middle. So staying centered at the start of a fight guarantees you are not instantly killed :)

The music was made just for this game, but I have to admit that I had some help from a friend on that part. I hope that still complies with the rules^^

Tap tap tap tap tap sounds are great! Good music, nice concept, maybe a bit slow to start, but really good overall :)

I really liked the look and feel of the game, it was very cute. The minigame mechanics were interesting despite having to do math haha, but I liked the variety of gameplay. It does go a bit slow at times where I was only getting small numbers and addition so reaching 100 seemed difficult. Aside from the pace in a couple spots, the game play was fun and enjoyable!

Enjoyed this game a lot! The mini games were great and I could see you releasing this as an educational game. Music and sound effects were awesome. Could possibly speed the pace a bit between mini games.

Your game is amazing, I loved playing with it.
So hard to not abandoned when you have a 78 / 9.

Wow very good game. Best (math) game I have ever played. There seems to be a bug where you get a negative amount of lives.

Really nice concept! The graphics and animations are cute. The minigames are lovely. But the math side is a bit hard under pressure! Damn divisions.... ;)

Congratulations for this game ! It was surprisingly captivating, almost kind of stressful at moments. You could have taken another sprite than Undertale's heart tho :^)
Was there an inspiration from Kid Paddle?

Pretty cool! A few times I moused over "add to party" or "chase away" and instantly died, once I saw that my mouse was on a newly-appearing square, perhaps I wasn't in exactly the center of the text. Had a lot of trouble with some of the minigames at the default resolution, but then I switched to full-screen and it got much easier =). Got really confused for a bit when in the bottom you used divide (÷) and then up top you used percent (%), which often means "modulo" instead of "division", and I did not see the appropriate remainder anywhere in the list of options =). I won, in the end.

Love your characters and art style, music is also pretty great.

It took me awhile to get used to the interface, but eventually I got the hang of it. The modulus puzzles killed me. Even with so many lives, I found this too difficult. Even so, this is very innovative. There's a lot of potential here.

This was pretty fun! My math skills are on point. My memory skills... not so much :joy: My only complaint was that I got three subtractions in a row, which really slowed the game down.

Very interesting. Some mini games are fun, others not so much. I like how much character these numbers have, especially how you handled zero giving a life back. Good art style and music too
