The game in itself isn't very difficult (I just pressed space and went always forward, I always killed enemies lol) but the retro art style, the music, the effect, all was so cool !!
I loved the way you handled the theme "Start with nothing", it is pretty unique when I look up to all games I could test, and I found it refreshing :)

Good job !

As an arcade side-scrolling shooter (that reminds me of DOS games due to the color and graphics style), its fun. The menu was really strange, but I eventually figured out that one could set any difficulty they wanted and I think the bgmusic selection was also a stage select. But I'm not quite sure. It was fun to figure out, and satisfying to reach that 4-star-end-screen. Kind of slow paced, but it's chill that way. Great job!

Thanks you @burnedkirby, yeah there are many options in the menu, for many idea not implemented because of time ! But i have try to make a prototype playable and fun ;) (and you're right for BGmusic and level select,it's a feature ^^).

Spent a good time on this one. Went through the whole menu and it was really fun, i did not, however, find any star. If you have stars in this game, well hidden and if there are not well trolled haha

The menu was pretty hilarious. I was even able to shoot and move around from the title screen, which was entertaining. Controls were simple and I caught on easily. Enjoyed this game a lot. Well done!

It definitely has a nice side scrolling shooter feel to it. Initially the menu at the beginning was a little unintuitive to menu around, but once I actually managed to get into the game it was a lot of fun in the end

Loved the art and sound! It reminded me of old 90's PC games, like Commander Keen! I was able to get the 4-star ending with some finnagling, I do think you should tell people in the description about the BG Music mission selector, because until I read the comment from @burnedkirby I was kinda lost as to what to do. But I liked this, very relaxed and fun.

I waited at the loading screen until 75% before I realized I was already playing. Got my 4 stars. I feel like I accomplished something. The "arcade" was plain and easy, but it was well done.

Fun game!

Your game was good enough, a little lacking in content and a tad too easy but responsive and intriguing nonetheless. I only managed to get 3 out of the 4 stars as I didn't realize the music selection was also a level selection. I did manage to find the room hidden above the menu, but couldn't figure out what it was for.

That being said, I'd like to address my main complaint: screenshake. Holy cow is that a lot of screenshake! Just navigating the menus gave me a headache!

I actualy really like the artstyle of the game but somehow I m not sure if I did play whole game, just defeat a boss, then defeat the same boss again and thats it.

Such great interpretation of the theme! Didn't get it at first, I needed checking the screenshots to believe there was something to find  but then I got into it played it all. Really had a great time plus the musics are great! Because of theme fit plus having a game with no flaw and so many qualities, **5/5**, best game so far

@manimal there are 4 levels with different music and environement but by lack of time it's the same boss in the 4 level ! Thanks you for testing my game !

The levels and enemies were quite samey and bland, but everything else was full of attitude. Loved the sound test...

I found all four stars! But I would have quit if I hadn't read comments here. I think some in-game clues that you need to dig and find the game would help a little. Nice job :)

Good game! Was kinda confused in the beginning but the tip to look into the menus did the job for me.

I love the concept, I liked spamming buttons to skip the loading screen.

I would like to see this expanded, where changing more of the options in the menu changes more parts in the game, but that would be far out of the scope of 48 hours. With time time you had it was really cohesive (but thank you for the tip on this page, I would be so confused otherwise)

thanks @blaster391 yes i was lack of time to implement all my ideas, in this fact i was tryed to make this prototype playable of maximum, but there are a lot of things to add to finish, maybe after rating period but i think i begin to add thing this week end in a post jam version.

@locomule yes i wanted to hide more thing and secret to make this game different but it's difficult to explain in a game jam concept !

Wow - that was crazy. I thought I was done with the game then went to check out some of the options and then found a level pull out of the top of the screen? That was so unexpected.

@candlesan yes i wanted to make this game different and crazy, maybe this secret will be important in a post jam version ! (not enought time in 48 hours to make all this things but it's ready ;) )

very nice, and thanks a lot for that easy mode! I am not always in the mood for a big challenge so it was cool to play through the experience without the pain ;) Menus were bunch of fun. Cool entry!

I like the art style, but was super confused whether I was actually playing the game or not since the menu stayed up the whole time.

all the concept around this game is amazing (5 star in innovation for me )
I like how the menu was connected to the gameplay maybe it will be cool to renforce this concept
Great job

I never really knew if the game was supposed to be like that or if it was broken :joy: Never had sound, never managed to find the second star

Interesting entry, but confusing as heck :joy:

Interesting take on a glitch art game. I liked the various music tracks found in the menu, but didn't have enough patience to search for all the stars

Really slick. I only found one star, but everything fits together well and looks solid. Very strong aesthetic.

This is an nice idea. I like the way you choose between levels, although the levels seem to be all the same on my run. Interesting game nonetheless!

very glitchy -- the menu floated over the game the whole time -- still i like the commander keen art style -- thanks for making it

@toasteater Yeah the 4 level are the "same" actually, but i work on a post jam version with arcade theme levels ! and thanks you @paulhocker, i appreciate you like this graphics !

Strange idea, but quite fun, had some difficulties to find my way in the game, but rewarding when you can get something out of it :>
