SNEN - Start with Nothing, End with Nothing by FredFilo

A very small puzzle game.
"SNEN - Start with Nothing, End with Nothing" was the title when I published the game. I was too tired to find any good title during the 15 minutes remaining of the submission hour ^^;
Anyways... that was the first time I tried to make a puzzle game. I'll probably continue with arcade games from now on :) I admire people who can make good puzzle games, especially in a game jam... that was so hard for me!

I think I gave up on the "theme". At first the character would start with nothing at each level, acquiring the energy required to reach the next level. And then, going through the portal, that energy was lost... next level, same thing. That leads to the title "start with nothing, end with nothing", which I don't like, but I was way too tired to find something original in the last minutes of the submission hour. :neutral_face:
I learned so much during those 2 days, and even though the game is very short and not very interesting, I'm quite proud I could publish as it is.
I knew that kind of game existed but during the 48h I didn't take any reference from other games. Maybe I should have ^_^; Now that you mention Sokoban and that I saw some screenshot of it, I remember playing the one from 1984, with only EGA graphics (pink and cyan).
By the way, creating puzzles at 5am... 2 hours before submission... while being totally new at designing puzzle, and mentally tired... was a bad idea :)
At first, the movement was not repeating (you had to press several times to keep moving). But then I allowed faster movements. I agree, slower movements could have been better. Especially for a very short game like this, there is no need to hurry.
Thank you all for playing and your feedback ! That encourages me to not give up on puzzle games completely. Actually, I might continue development on this one for a little while.
If not already, I'll also play your games soon :)
@goldenglade Thank you ! I'm glad you enjoyed it. This time I wanted to create a complete game with proper home screen and ending screen. I spent too much time on the tutorial... 5 levels out of 8 are tutorial levels ^^; Next time I'll manage my time better.
@alchemic Thank you for playing :) I'll try to make more puzzle games in the future (even if I'm not really good at it), instead of my usual platformers.
@hajden Thank you for trying my game :) Yes, It's very short... There's even one level that I thought was challenging, but after submission my wife tried it, and she solved it in a way I never thought about, more quickly than my solution ^^;
I tried the 2 methods (button pressed and button down). Obviously "Button pressed" didn't have any problem with speed, but that was a lot of keys to press. In order to navigate the levels more quickly I decided to go with "button down". I adjusted the speed so that it's not too fast but I think I made a mistake just before making the final builds. The speed is indeed too fast.
It's not something that prevent the player from completing the game, so I won't change it until the rating period is over.
Thanks again :)
