Game for Ludum Dare 45 "Start with nothing"

programming - design by Andrea Teruzzi (https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrea-teruzzi-416292157/).

audio was royalty free and downloaded online.

Explore a tiny world by creating cubes and finding all the black platforms!

This was our first jam and oh boy, it was tough. We changed plan 3 times during the 3 days, and someone here does not know how to setup an alarm in order to wake up and upload the game... cough andrea cough. Nonetheless this little experience was born!

Use WASD to move, Space to jump, hold Left Click to spawn cubes and double click on created objects to move them around!

Unfortunately there are some bugs that we'll try to fix if we have the time: - FIXED => the jump is reaaaally high and buggy. Some times you'll lose the ability to jump: spawn little cubes and with some collisions and enough luck, you'll go back to jumping in no time! - FIXED => the hint balloon can sometimes show multiple messages. - the click particle gets displayed even when it shouldn't. Also it is not aligned perfectly with the mouse cursor.

Oh and if you have a drawing tablet try it out! Spawning cubes with that can be quite addictive.

Lastly, this is not really a bug but, the black platforms idea was really a last minute change. They have been placed without really thinking about the cube spawning mechanic... so they are reachable just by walking. Not sure if we are allowed to fix this so just imagine they are placed up high!

Thanks for playing and rating!

I thought I encountered a bug when I first pressed jump, that boy jump high.

But its a really chill game, and I like the ending.

Strange, I did not get in despite I finished the game

I really like the aesthetic. I feel that the block creation could have been better incorporated into the gameplay. In the end, I didn't actually use the block to finish the game at all, I just jumped (mostly because my jump height was absolutely massive, about 3 or 4 times higher than the highest objects in the level).

Graphics and audio worked really well together to create a nice mood. Some more puzzle elements with the cubes would have been nice though.

this feels really really polished, the hard shadows and simple visual style look really good, unless I missed somethign I really like dthe box growing mechanic but wish it played slightly more of a role, overall very nice little game

The only thing i dislike about it is the jump. Way too high, very floaty and you can't really tell where you'll land. Some puzzles with the creation of cubes would probably go a long way as well.
Well done graphics and sound create a nice ambiance tho! And the concept itself is quite creative!

Now that is a very interesting concept! It reminds me of a game I saw on youtube where the size of the object physically changed with how far away it was.

Really enjoyed the look and feel on this one, though the jump is way too strong -- I often lost track of where I was during the jump, since the shadow goes out of view.

Overall It is a short game but very well made. I liked to explore the world and try different interactions. The 3d environment is very cool and really well made. I love the graphics and the mood of the game. The mechanic of pulling an object from the sand and creating cubes is interesting but I would like to see this mechanic applied more times.

this was pretty fun -- i really liked the feeling at the beginning of discovery and wondering how the blocks will help me -- nice entry

Nice artstyle and great music selection! I really liked the cube spawning mechanic, I think it has great potential! ...but unfortunately I never had to use it because of the enormous jump force

The atmosphere and audiovisual presentation was amazing! I wish the jum was not so slow and high and I wish that once I had the character I would still have had to use the block creation mechanic. I liked that but it was underused.

It was pretty cool though that after all I had played in the end screen message all along. Nice reveal at the end there.

Very cool ending ! Seems that the jumb bug hasn't completely been fixed since I encountered it too. There also is a problem with the buttons that don't always trigger when stepping on them (or I may have missed something :'D). Anyway, cool experience that reminded me of Monument Valley, the various animations were very well executed too!

Really enjoyed it. It was well paced and the mechanics were well-explained in game which is always a bonus.
