Rail shooter prototype by Chocolat-Endive

[raw]
made by Chocolat-Endive for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

It's our entry for LDJam45. We've come across many technical issues, which delayed us and prevented us from making a proper level design. Or even a proper complete level (we had planned to create 2 of them). Or even the scenario (you won't see a real implementation of the theme).

However, it was a fun Ludum Dare, and we'll probably make a more complete version soon!

The game was created with Godot engine 3.1.

Tools used :

  • Godot Engine
  • Blender
  • Gimp
  • Nanoloop Mono
  • Audacity

We hope you'll enjoy the journey in our demo game!

You'll find in the downloads the complete musical track of the level, because you won't be able to hear it in the game.

Beautiful, smooth game and music, I just love it!
Definitely promising too, I hope you do work on it some more after the jam so it doesn't just stay at this "proof of concept" stage!

nice smooth game, simple and obvious gameplay.

Short but stylish, I really like the art style. This could become a full fledged game with some polishing and more levels

Nice game, the art style is trippy and the concept is easy to understand.

I really like the art, quite smooth and original! The sound was nice too! The gameplay is a bit too simple for the moment but it could be great with some small improvements!

Thanks @anne-ogborn @philarmon @gnomik and @tyrannas.

I hope we'll find motivation to continue to work on it! We're quite happy with the mood of this game.

What I saw I liked, but it's a bit too short. I wish you could make it at least loop and radnomize enemies a bit. I love the art style and music fits it well. Great polish on the game overall. I saw no issues.

Really nice aesthetic! I like the music track and I think it would have been cool if the SFX were in the same key.

@ryzy27 Thanks! Yeah it was meant to be a 5 minute level but we had too much technical problem before we could create the level so... I'm glad you liked it!

@mikethehuman We planned to make music and fx more linked together indeed!

Nice mood and artwork, after playing it with mouse i tried to play it on touchscreen - sadly it didn't work. Maybe in the future? ☺

Not sure if intended or not but when playing the windows build and you do nothing you will still reach the end an win...

@pilarius it's really a prototype, there's no way to loose indedd since you have 3 hp at start, and there is only 2 ennemies that make damage.

@filipdufka that's indeed a great idea! Thanks!

I think this game has quite a bit of potential. Say if you added more feedback when you are attacking an enemy or when you take damage, the feel would go a long way. Great visuals and suiting soundtrack for a sci-fi polygonal theme.

Cheers to getting a decent prototype done!

The art style and retro background feel is super cool! There's a really small hitbox on the enemies, so it's a bit weird to click on them. Otherwise, it was a cool, short experience :)

The graphics are amazing but I didn't really understood what I was supposed to do (an I won anyway).

@brotherbondproduction : yes I agree, we wanted to make the player react a little more on the damage (both inflicted and taken), but we were really short on time. It's definitely something we'll add if we work again on the project!

@flywolfe : you're right, we thought the same right before shipping the project, but it was too late already. The enemies were added to the level something like a half and hour before the deadline xD

Also, thank you very much @clickbait , @shigor and @feingehacktes for your feedback :)

This is a super stylish game, I love the aesthetic, and the little effects like when the enemies explode.

It is a shame you didn't get to make more this, but what you did have was really polished. (Shame death wasn't fully implemented by the looks of it)

If you kept working on this post jam it could turn into a very nice little scifi shoot-em up

@thetatautau Thank you for your observation. It's true that there should be more information on what the player is supposed to do at the beginning of the level. The initial plan was to shoot at enemies, to avoid getting hurt and make the highest score possible, but yeah in the final prototype the experience is more contemplative.

I love the graphics and the audio, it's really too bad there's almost no game. It sucks that you had technical issues :(
I follow you on itch.io though so I'm waiting for the full version now :D Good luck!

@lucien-catonnet Merci ! Oui, on a perdu énormément de temps, et c'est assez dommage. Si on a la motivation, on essaiera de faire un vrai petit jeu sur cette base.

Nice, small and simple game. Meditative in some way. I've got one problem - after zero HP game still plays!

Not bad overall, it's OK that you don't have a story or other bells and whistles. You even have sounds and music, which is great. Visually, it is very well done. And it fits the theme, what else do you want? :) My only complaint is about visibility, too much bloom prevents you from seeing some of the enemies.

The game looks really great!
But unfortunately it crashes after couple of seconds:

Best graphic so far! Really loved it. The sound was spot on too!
The game is really too short though, and it could have benefitted by a few more effect!

Nice job anyway dude, keep doing jams! :)

@wolf4d yeah we have not implemented a loose screen. :D
@fedorl That's strange, I'm going to try it with an integrated intel graphic card to see if I have the same bug. From the look of the error code, it could be a bug with the godot engine. Thanks for the feedback!

Kinda reminds me of Rez (from Playstation2).
I feel this can be polished into 'real' game.

Visually, the game looks beautiful! The game process itself is quite short, I wanted more. The musical accompaniment is excellent. It is not clear how the topic is reflected.

@blk-dragon Thanks! I really love Rez so it's indeed one of our inspirations. @dodelov We did not really implement our ideas with the theme. We wanted to make things appears one after another, starting with a black screen, we've spend to much time dealing with technical issues to create a proper level with this idea. Thanks for your feedback!

Very pretty graphics, but I know how technical hiccups can slow you down big time! I think the game would be better if you could use the multi-select weapon as a secondary weapon, and primary being your standard firing with each click. I hope you flesh this game out and iron out the issues with it, I think you could make something simple but fun with what you have now :) Great work!

Hey, nice atmosphere! Love how looks and sounds. I wish that that experience least a little longer. In terms of visual and sound feedbacks a miss some indication that my enemies are taking fire.

Gameplay was very smooth, and i loved the graphics and audio.

I wanted to bring this to your attention. I noticed when there were multiple enemies on screen I got this error message. It did not seem to affect gameplay at all, but something was off. ![2019-10-13.png](///raw/9e4/z/298d2.png)

Cool (but short) game!
Nice art and music, I think the combo system should reward more doing chains to kill ennemies.
But nice job!

I didn't really understand what was going on ): but it did look really nice, and it sounded good as well. So overall, good job on getting to where you reached! Even if it's not a full game, it's still a solid amount of work completed.

It's super cool looking, and even though I was confused, I still enjoyed it!

Very interesting! It isn't very long it's hard to tell whether or not the targets are getting hit or not, so some visual and audio feedback would be nice for that. There may have been audio feedback but I couldn't distinguish it. The graphics however are really excellent and aesthetically pleasing! The mechanics are also unique. Nicely done!
