Grip of Despair by Khud0

[raw]
made by Khud0 for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

Grip of Despair is a grim rhythm fighting game about an alcoholic, who woke up and decided to change his life. Push button sequences to help Gorton beat the opponents!

I really didn't fit anything theme-related and the game is extremely raw. All I managed to finish is the UI bar which I will end up re-creating again. Still I decided to upload the game here as a reminder to set realistic goals for my next game jam and working with placeholders first instead of polishing the art.

If your game is as unfinished as mine or, generally, you're interested in seeing other people's experience with Ludum Dare, I think that you will like my "postmortem" video about Grip of Despair and 2 other LD entries:

Edit1: Added HTML5 build, not sure if it will run well outside of the fullscreen mode.

Yeah I won :)
Great audio and Mood but I don't really see the connection to the theme

Thank you, we are glad you enjoyed the graphics and soundtracks! Those are the only things we managed to get done, after all! xD

@ausstein
Great job! Thank you for dedicating your time to the game! :) Indeed, theme-related aspects were planned but weren't implemented. =/

@maaya

Sounds like you learned some great lessons from this jam, and experienced what we all do in regards to scope.. that said, music was fun, and I love the art style, the UI Bar is very nice also! Thank you for submitting even though you felt it unfinished!

It IS kind of unfinished, though the main mechanics work well already, good job on that! I would have liked to see my score upon finishing the game though.

Thank you for your advice! I added a WebGL build, though it doesn't seem to work well outside of the fullscreen mode.

The game starts with a good difficulty to get into the game, but in my opinion you could really increase the difficulty over the two levels, but I guess you didn't have enough time for that. If even found the second level to be easier than the first. Great soundtrack and graphics! The game is very solid and rounded up, good work here!

Nice idea and I like the audio. A world ranking could improve a lot your game.

Great game, really fun! I found it to be very addicting, but sadly it was way to hard for me. If you just displayed how many buttons you missed at the end of a level, it would be much easier for noobs like me to play and enjoy the game.

The idea is great, but the beginning of the game is too difficult, next time work on difficulty progression more thoroughly, as a player shouldn't be beaten at the start.
