Noth INC. by Dongle

[raw]
made by Dongle for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

We really ran out of time making so there isn't really an ending and might be wonky.

The idea was to upgrade everything in the game for the start menu to the ending. Sam (the AI character) does all the attacking while you do all the buying and upgrading.

We had a lot of fun making it and hope you will have fun playing it.

Sad that's you didn't finish the game anyway the art is awesome :)

Hm, why would I want to upgrade the enemy? :o
Would have been interesting to see what would have become.

Hmm, I love the idea of upgrading enemies, it gives a sense of risk vs reward. I'll admit it does get to a point where you're just purchasing ammo when you get low every 5 seconds but more upgrades and interactivity on the screen would help that a bunch. I love the art, it's so adorable, great job, guys

Great design! The concept is also nice, it would need more time to implement.

The idea of upgrading enemies to boost your own economy is really interesting. The art is cute, consistent and overall great!

I really like the art style but I don't quite understand the gameplay. It seems like I only have to buy ammo(and player upgrades). Upgrading the enemies is a funny concept but I don't know why you would do it. I guess you get more money but the small enemies give more than enough. Maybe I'm missing something?

@freso and @beritens You're right, ahh! I originally had it at where the small enemies only gave you a dollar when killed, but I changed it to 2 and didn't balance it correctly. I did that so that you can accumulate money faster to unlock the gun faster and at the beginning you had a good chance of running out of ammo. The idea was that you had to upgrade the enemies in order to afford the upgrade before getting overrun. Currently you can beat it without upgrading the enemies. I don't know if counts as game breaking but that's something that I'd like to fix.

Another thing I think I'd redo is to grey out the upgrades icon instead of hiding it so people know that they exist (a big silly oversight).

A simple game with great potential. Infinity passing is a bit confusing. I want the final and some additional bonus improvements. In the beginning, you always forget about the cartridges. Graphics are cute, like the cat)

Guys omg great job!! if you are going to release a Post Jam edition, please do so, the game is a lot of fun, the graphics are great, i love the sound track, the sxf, just the AI made me a little mad that she wouldn't start shooting the enemies as they appeared, so there were times that she was walking randomly and enemies were coming and she wasnt shooting. on my first runs i din't realize that you would run out of ammo, so oopsies, but once i got that figured out things went a lot better. GREAT JOB INDEED

@namnam Thanks a lot! We appreciate it :)

@pestodesign Thank you very much for your feedback! I'm glad you had fun with it. We really didn't have much time to do a lot of testing on it so it's a little more broken than I'd like but thank you for your feedback!

@janik-h Thank you! :)

@omickron Thanks for your feedback! Happy to hear you enjoyed it at least a little :)

@chaos Wow thanks for your feedback! I'm glad you had so much fun with it! Yeah some things should have been made more obvious to the player, such as reloading your gun when you run out of ammo (as it happens fairly quickly) but I'm happy you were able to figure it out in the end. We may do so! Not sure yet but thank you!

The game looks very good, and while there are issues with balancing, it shows potential! It could use a bit more depth too with more possibilities at the beginning. But the AI character is pretty cool and shows a simple but adequate AI. Lots of potential overall ;)

@squeele I totally agree, also the graphics fit gameplay well. It just needs a little bit more time :)

Interesting idea. It would be good if there were more interacting with the screen, as I was just purchasing ammo whenever it got low. Good job!

@dongle I know, time is short in Ludum Dare! Still a good game!
