NoControl by simXple

[raw]
made by simXple for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

In NoControl you have to get your control back by finding the keys of your keyboard. I hope that the download works, because it is the first game I have ever created. :)

For those who have a problem with the walljump : just press w short when you jump against the wall, don't hold the key down long.

I have also added a web-version, hope that everything works fine.

1) A version that can be played without installing would be much appreciated. Don't really want to give admin rights to everything I download.

2) Also, I don't understand how climbing the wall works. Can't get one that second one. It says W, but it seems like I can only jump when near such walls sometimes...

3) The concept is great, I love it.

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know how to make it into a browser game but definitely a thing I will attempt on my next LUDUM dare. About the wall climb : you just have to press once short and not hold the button down. Just jump against the wall and press w. :)

I really liked the game overall, the concept was really cool and I haven't seen another game that uses a mechanic like that. The level design was a little confusing at times, but really good job :)

Oh man, I wish there was more! What a good take on the theme!

Haha, I couldn't be the only one with this interpretation of the theme ;)

First, let me join kuviman's comment, clicking an "install" button felt very wrong. It's done with Unity, it's so simple to create a WebGL version, and you would make everybody happy! ;)

It was a very fun game, the character was so cute and the animations felt real smooth. It's just sad that there was no audio. But if it's your very first game, congrats, you made something very enjoyable!

Nice entry!

Congratulations on your first game. The character has some cute animations, especially durning digging.

Have you been inspired by the DLC quest by any chance?

@griz Thank you for the feedback :) Nope, I haven't even heard of DLC Quest but after checking it out you are right there are some parallels

@rolly Thanks for your comment. Yea i will make a WebGl version next time and i agree with you that it is kinda akwkward to download such a small game. My next entry will definitely be played in the browser. I didn't had any time for making sounds either, I mean I tried but it didn't really fit. I'll check out your game to :D

Funny little game, controls and movement worked smooth; fun take on the theme. I think the "green walls" didn't really work for me, or I did something wrong perhaps. But good effort, good job! Fun little game.

Fun Concept but I wish it had better arrow key support. I can move left and right but climbing, digging, opening doors, and sprinting only works well when using WASD.

Climbing the wall took me a bit to figure out, some sounds would have been nice but other then that a really creative entry! :D

@simxple the problem is installing, not downloading. Many people give an executable that you have to download, but that launchs the game directly. If you want, there's nothing wrong to add a web version now for this LD. I'm afraid you could lose many players if you only propose this solution. It's up to you! :)

@rolly wait really I can still add a web version? I'll thank take care of this problem when I am back home. I thought I couldn't change anything now :D

@simxple You made me doubt, so I checked the rules again, and, I quote: "Porting (especially to Web or Windows) can happen after the initial 48 hours. The longer you wait though, the less time participants will have to play your game." So yeah, feel free to do it! ;)

Very nice game! It was quite challenging to make through the last jump, but I've enjoyed running and looking for new keys

This is a great idea! I really love all the little state changes on the character - whether squishing after a jump or rotating around when it rolls. So much personality!

I really like how you interpreted the theme! The game was super fun! Really, the only criticism that I have is that the walljump mechanic isn't very intuitive, but other than that it's great and I'd love to see it expanded with extra levels in the future :)

I loved it. I tried to jump a lot insted of using w to walljump though xD. Good game.

Digging could probably be faster/instant, wasnt sure if anything was happening.
Otherwise cool concept! Just a bit short.

I loved the players graphics and animations, liked looping around the level as I learnt abilities. The rock break ability really needs some sort of feedback though as it isn't instant so it's hard to tell if it's actually doing anything.

The design of the character is very simple but still very effective, congratulations for your very first game :)

Really nice little game! The checker background hurt to look at though, just needs to be scaled up I think

Nicely done! It's like a little template for a metroidvania game. The keyboard controls were a little bit goofy when needing to do complex movements. But great job overall.

Wow, what a cool idea! Probably my favorite take on the theme I've seen this Ludum Dare yet, I like the meta approach. I agree with the previous comment that the main character was very cute! Bouncing around was super fun, especially after you get sprinting, you made that feel very fun. Great job on your game!

Great take on the theme! I did notice though that there were little graphical flickers on the obstacles every now and then. I believe this happens in unity when two sprites are very close together, but don't actually touch. I also really wish there was some audio in the game.

Some sound in the game - even a bad one is much better than none. Nontheless great take on the theme.

Nice, simple & small Metroidvania. It's nice and fits the theme, good job!

If it truly is your first game, then this is a really good start, keep on making games, I'm sure you'll have lots of more great games in the future!

Solid Entry!

The bounciness of the character was so cute. Loved this, left a good feeling in me. Felt good actually beating a game. haven't done that for a while

Nice little game. I there are a few games like this this LD but I liked the added part of involving the keyboard.
