Color Swirl by sansman01

About the Game

You are a small flare. A torch in the dark. Nothing is there, or is it? But, hey, the torch follows my mouse. Whats going on? There is a light coming into the scene. Let's fly there. Wait, what was that noise? Oh, there is landscape. Let's follow the track. More lights. Different colors and .. okay, who built a gate here!

PS: It is allowed to touch any walls. Only the Doors need to be open.

The game is easier when NOT using Fullscreen, because you can move the mouse around the game

Hey, we are two people @Raomer and @sansman01 joining Ludum Dare for the first time and we are having fun!

Game mechanics seems to work, we are creating levels now. I am impressed about the ideas floating around :)

Some sprites for a forest we created yesterday.

The game idea is nice and I liked to explore and see how the game mechanics work. I eventually grew really frusturated of the experimentation simply by how long it takes to travel to the first lazer after death.

Thanks for your feedback @ssstormy. The game is nearly done now. The controls were changed to mouse only and is easier now. The beginning takes long but it's our intepretation of "start with nothing" :)

Fun game! Took me a little while to realize I was allowed to hit the walls without penalty, which made things considerably smoother to play.

A bit slow gameplay/camera for me, but it's ok.

That's a cool idea. I like the mouse only control and the challenge of the game. Some nice little features with the colour changing and the way that little blobs are both keys and also change the world palette. Well done!

I think there is a very good mechanic behind that to explore but it's really hard :)

In any case it's super nice to play... Well done

Moody! The first empty part made me excited to play your game. Love it.
The game play itself is pretty hard with a trackpad but very fun. To improve the game checkpoints would be great, and maybe improve the visuals a bit, as I dont think pixel art fits the looks of your flare. You should otherwise dive deep into the mood of your game.

With a trackpad... yeah that must be realy hard xD. Hmm... or maybe i can get the flare look more blocky :)

I really like the mechanic you made here, with the different colors for the barricades and turning of the light when you make a mistake.

Ok , that's really one of the best I played on Ludum 45! Nice music, nice gameplay. You rule, I can't stop playing!

That was actually really good.
It's a simple idea, but fun, and implemented well.
I'm impressed you guys managed to pull off such a simple premise in such an engaging way.
Great job.

One thing I'd mention is that the game might be a little too punishing. Sending you back to the start of the level when you lose kind of sucks, check points would have been appreciated.

Though hitting walls doesn't punish you, you can actually get stuck in and phase through the walls, especially in corners and going towards the left side of the screen. As has been said, the game is a little too punishing and I also believe that the intro to the yellow color is a little slow and hard to sit through. All in all though, good game and concept, but I'm not sure how much it fits 45's theme.

Nice I quite enjoyed this. The graphics were nice and the game play felt relatively polished.

Savepoints are on the ToDo-List for after the Ludum Dare 45. Maybe its possible to turn them off if you want more of a challenge, thats up to a team discussion.

This was an awesome game! Very addicting, could not put it down, death after death, until it was done. Simple concept, well executed. It was difficult to handle the changing speeds in some segments, but I would love to see this game polished up to its fullest and extended.
Great work!

Good entry! I really liked the movement of the small flare. It felt very natural and was responsive - even on a trackpad. Nevertheless, I found the game to be a little bit to punishing for my taste.

This game is fun! I love the color mechanic and the gameplay feels great. The music selection also gives it a cool vibe. Well done!

It was fuuun! I really enjoyed the general concept of this game but I think the difficulty level gets too high too early, it could use a bit more of the "slower" movement and longer time for reaction. Nonetheless, it's a great entry and seems bug-less to me which is awesome. Good job guys!

I enjoyed this although I kinda would prefer the more minimalist style it started with rather then showing the level.

All in all, good work!

Very simple yet nice use of the theme. I loved the audio, the gameplay is well done even if a bit hard. I think this could be a cool mobile game. But I got to agreed with @hyperscope in my opinion the game would have worked better with a more minimalist art style, like juste white line and colored line (maybe a faux fixe). Still, very good job !

I bit difficult. Also the intro is painfully long when you just wanna jump in and play. Experienced quite a bit of stutter aswell each time I switched colours. I enjoyed it though! Quite innovative, but difficult!

Hard game but also a game where you need to play through to progress a lot. You have to be ready to change color here, go to a gate there, and so forth. Really liked the audio and the doors were satisfying to open. The player looks very neat as well. Good job!

A very good idea! I found the simplicity of the graphics and the music (which creates a very good mood and lessens the strain of the game's difficulty) well balanced with the technical difficulty. I didn't go very far, but there is nothing better than a good hours of practice. Congratulations on the idea so original!

Really fun game! Loved the idea and was hooked as soon as I got it! Sad that it was kinda short, the audio for the doors seemed really fitting. It felt a bit like the mouse control was a bit "off", like a little irresponsible, but after like 2 attempts I was able to complete it. Good job! :D
