made by lizelive for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

You start with nothing, and have to sell your body to survive.

Instructions : find + talk to doctors to get upgrades and get the golden apple to win!

Errata: I fixed soft-lock that prevent completing the game if you get armor first, and music not working. Also made a more visually appealing cover image.

I have no idea what I just played. The controls were very clunky and platforming was very frustrating, I kept falling off the platforms and it was a little laggy at times. The graphics are a big oof for me. Maybe you should have opted for a 2D game as I would imagine you wouldn't have much time to design graphics for a 3D game.

some of the models have the outline shader thing on it and some dont. i would personally stick with it on all, or off all, the mix of both looks wierd.

That green on pink at the start  I managed to get some armor, but then I couldn't move properly. This game seems a bit mad  I like the running animation with the fluid lean

It could have been good and I enjoyed it's quirkiness, but the controlls and general inconsistency are a pretty big put off

Constructive Criticism: the camera / high speed made it really hard to move around :/

What an odd game. It has some of the worst 3D platforming I've played, but I still love it.

I'm honestly pretty confused by this but I admit I did laugh at the fortnite-dancing quest givers. I would've liked some clearer instructions on what to do in the world.

@boltactiontoaster i struggled a lot trying to make movement feel good, but I generally don't play platformers.
any proposals on how to do better with the movement?

@lizelive Honestly, less horizontal movement from jumps, and a taller arch would make it better. To go with this, you'll also want to decrease horizontal velocity faster than gravity would, so that it does not feel too floaty. Games like A Hat In Time and the 3D Mario games are excellent places to look at this. They tend to have ways of getting longer jumps as different inputs than a simple, normal jump (long jump in Mario games and the dive in A Hat in Time). Video game jumping tends to be extremely unrealistic, so don't be afraid to make an unrealistically high jump. There's also a ton of ways you could make movement snappier, such as just directly setting the velocity (which would lead to movement immediately stopping when the key is no longer pressed) or decreasing their velocity faster than the default gravity otherwise would. Try to also sync up the max movement speed of your player with their animation so it does not look like they're running on ice (unless it is intended to be ice, of course). Honestly, I struggle with movement too. It takes a lot of practice to get it right. Just keep at it, you have some good work here and it's really good you want to improve!

I absolutely love some of your 3D models (Like all the trees and the adorable killer Turtle!)

That being said this game was extremely frustrating to try to play. I think you tried taking on to much personally rather than trying to make it a little more polished. Regardless you did a good job and would love for you to keep building on it!

The absolute biggest thing to improve on was the movement. Being a core part of any platformer this should feel the most solid. While not super important I'd think about making a proper dialog box. Maybe even adding mouse control for the camera while still using WASD to move. That'll even allow you to use the mouse buttons for Q & E as well. And if the player doesnt want to use the mouse they still have the WASD but I believe that will help players immensely!

I am up way too late right now but I'm gonna be real I was crying laughing for like 2 minutes straight as soon as it started and I saw the dancing doctor and just took everything in.

The controllers were SO F* CRAZY. Quite hard at first bu after the legs upgrade I had a lot of fun flying all around. The music was crazy as well, but became quite annoying after a while. I manage to finish the game, but I did not find the artifacts that are supposed to make me stronger .-.

This game was really loopy, and held my attention way longer than I thought it would, just based on how bizarre everything was. I think making the game more comprehensible and working making the mechanics more usable would go a long way.

I do need to come back and say, something about this game has me keep coming back, I discover something new every time. If I'm being totally honest, the gameplay is abysmal, the controls are a mess and it's incredibly difficult to tell what's going on. At face value, if you were to focus on this then this might appear to be a horrible game. But this game has done something truly special, despite what I mentioned before I cannot describe how fascinated I am with it. It is triggering many emotions in me. At first I was legitimately brought to tears with laughter from the dancing doctor man and incredibly broken english. Then as I began to explore the world I felt strong feelings of nostalgia, it reminded me a lot of the obscure low quality N64 games my parents would let me rent from blockbuster on occasion. And now it is this incredibly surreal experience that has me playing again and again, and showing it to my friends and coworkers. In terms of an art piece I truly believe this belongs in a museum of modern art. I am not sure what your goal was when you first sought out to create this game, if you were attempting to make an orthodox 3D platforming adventure kind of game I'm afraid you have failed miserably and I apologize if my criticism sounds too harsh. But if you are going for a more abstract piece of art you have truly created something special. I look forward to any future games you create!

@mikeality I am really happy with your review actually.

I was going for a satire poke at how half of the games are just a playable character jumping around getting power ups. So because obviously a human = nothing you have to That's why you sell your body to get power ups. Also I hate platforming games.
That's the reason you lose if you get every upgrade and the only way to get the true ending is to use a pile of !!FEATURES!!.

The controls/camera turn off people a bit to fast. Some features are too unreliable and some things are missing feedback that would have been fun. Of all the people I watched trying it, only one person realized that he could trick the upside-down turtle into flipping itself instead of punching it.

I am not a game developer and Sabbath limits my time to 24 hours so I knew I wasn't going to make a high quality game so I decided to just have fun and shoot for getting 1 star :koala:

Really like the idea and overall art style of this game. The game takes so redundant concept of survival game and tries to do something funny with it. The only problem for me is confusing navigation.
