All Aboard ! Thousand portholes by afendar

[raw]
made by afendar for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

mainmanu.PNG achievement.PNG bagpack.PNG

You have just failed after a horrible storm. Your goal, try to hit the road again. However, you have lost everything but you can count on the help of the inhabitants but also of your talents.

  • Move: Arrow Keys
  • Talk: Enter
  • Attack/Use/Harvest: Space
  • Open Backpack: B

After these 48 hours, I notice a lot of ideas that I did not have time to realize. I wanted to add more resources to collect to build the boat, but also add a crafting system to create tools and weapons to collect other objects. Add also some other elements of scenery to see even several NPCs and achievements.

Hope this 48h version will not disappoint you too much.

Have fun and have fun.

PS: I have some problems of collision and also of display. I will fix them for a future release. Thank you for understanding.

You're have maked a lot of work in 48 hours here ! There are some collisions problems, depth is not very well manage and it's unfinished but you're on the good way to make a good RPG next time ! Good job @afendar !

There's a lot of content here for a compo game. Formidable work!

P.S. You may want to remove the 'not' in "Thank you for not understanding." on this page ;)

Counters of berries and wood would be good, collisions don't work so well, items are sometimes impossible to pick up. At first I thought I should fight with the zombies, but my attacks don't seem to be doing anything, so some information about it could be useful. Overall it was a nice experience, it had a start and finish and a cool quest, many mechanics done in a short time, so congrats for that!

Thank you for your feedback @suchista. For the inventory part, I just forgot to add the B key in the description. I also wanted to add popups when picking items and also a screen with the current quests but I did not have enough time. For collision problems, I still have a lot of adjustments to make.

The game fails to execute, because it misses a "urctbased.dll" file.

The collision issues prevented me from getting the berries and progressing into the game. Some of them fall into unacessible areas when i try to harvest them. Also, the attack seems to not work on the HORDE of skeletons. Maybe i need an item that i cannot get because of the berry quest?

That said, the graphics are pretty neat. Really neat. The sounds present are nice, but the lack of music makes it seem a little empty. The correct soundtrack could improve the atmosphere of the game greatly.

If you could, post a version correcting the collision bug before the play & rate ends in order to prevent future players for experiencing it. According to the Ludum Dare Rules:

*Certain Bug Fixes are allowed. You can’t add new features, but if something broke or didn’t work correctly as you were finishing up, you can fix this after the deadline. You are asked to highlight the changes you make in your submission (a short change log). You probably wont get a 2nd chance with some players, but at least it wont be a problem for future players.*

Good job on finishing the compo!

@kuro, that's strange issue. i never see that previously. Did you have visual c++ redistribuable installed on your computer ?

I won! Ok, I think this game is a good start. The collision issues have already been mentioned. Those are tough to get right at the last minute. I really like where the game was headed.

Hmm, it feels like Notch style ;)
Cool graphics, but collision (as mentioned) are strange. Looks like they are shifted
And can't I attack skeletons ? hm

Thanks for your feedbacks guys. I work actually on bugfix and new content. But I think I will not have time to make a release before the end of the notation

I liked your pixel art, particularly the image of the ship on the ocean! I managed to beat the game, though it was quite difficult. One thing I would recommend is changing the controls so that you don't have to move your hands around so much (the ESC, Enter, and B keys especially).

Nice art, a few collisions bugs that prevented from getting to the item though. A little more information on how we can attack the enemies would have been useful!

Well, I _did_ have all the VC redist packages installed, but I still got the error with the missing DLLs. :(

After 2min there are 50 skeletons at some point of the map, and you can't go anywhere without being gangbanged.
The graph is cool, the map a little empty, at start, but filled with skeleton quickly.
There are a weird behaviour when you go down, the last line of tiles are not drawn before being fully shown.
