Junk Racer XL by Nikolaj

[raw]
made by Nikolaj for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

BEWARE awesome music gets going right off the bat, so turn down your volume if you are trying to be discrete

Start with nothing, pick up blobs as you go, makes your car heavier, but trades in each lap for bonus time!

Split screen PVP for awesome home arcade action!

Gamepads and big display highly recommended!

Controls Notes: * "Reset" will flip you back up again * Light taps to turn at speed, but don't try to turn while boosting, and brake around corners, drifting actually works!

Hey! Tried playing the downloadable version, but I get the following error:

![ldjam error.PNG](///raw/0b1/2/z/289ef.png)

I have the exe and ldjam45-junkracerxl.pck in the same folder but it can't locate it for some reason.

Web version worked though! The art was nice and I liked the audio, though it was a little bit too loud. I didn't have any friends to play with so I had fun trying to pull off the biggest jump possible!

Been seeing a lot of games using Gogot now, going to consider checking it out. Good job to both of you!

Hey just as a heads up, the WebGl seems to freeze anytime you try to play.

Hey another Godot game! Nice work, this was pretty fun to play. I would suggest having something that allows you to flip your car back over if it gets stuck upside down.

The game is INTENSELY loud on startup, damn nice track for this. I don't see where the theme "start with nothing" is implemented in this, but it's a damn nice little racing game. The Ragdolling is a bit much at points, but having a way to restart helps with it~ Is there any more reason to collecting the blue orbs aside from points?

Really fun game. I have a soft spot for racing games, and I loved the car controls on the gamepad! Car audio was really great although I wished it eased out of the audio when you let off the gas. Idk if the car has suspension or something it just handled so smooth. I would actually like to see the code lol. I liked the idea of the blobs making your car heavier but for bonus points, however, the colliders didn't work well with the car and would jerk the camera every time I picked one up.
Laughed really hard when my car went flying. Great game :)

@aj-jones thanks for the heads up, just pushed up a fix. I keep forgetting Godot 3.1 export of GLES3 doesn't work.. the shaders are basically not working on html5 (not that they are particularly hi-fi anyway!)

@itsbamboo There is! You can press "R" for player 1, "P" for player 2, or top gamepad button :)

@neonlare the blue orbs make you heavier, but you get a bonus for them every lap (-2 seconds). This comes into play if you are doing split-screen with a friend... needs to be more obvious though

Web version worked fine for me.

I have to say, this is a rich get richer game in that the starting handling is absolutely ludicrous. Maybe speed would have been a better risk/reward thing to be constantly boosting? Still, once a few blobs are had it's easier. The various triggers are visible, I don't think that was intentional and it made for some confusion until I realized they didn't block you. Crowd reaction noises (I think reacting to movement?) felt satisfying.

WebGL worked fine for me, although the turning controls felt like they didnt work sometimes. other than that, i love the aesthetic and the multiplayer is a nice touch :)

I sucked so much at this game - I spent quite a bit of time flying around and getting out of ditches :). Great fun!

Great job! I had quite a lot of fun ramping off the grass. The camera didn't seem to take reversing too kindly. The hitbox for collecting orbs was also quite unforgiving. Other than those small points, I enjoyed this immensely!

Was fun to play with a friend, the controls felt pretty sluggish though

need rename file to run, and reset doesn't return car to road.

overall good effort on the game -- thumbs up for using godot -- the contols were a little loose and flipping on my back could not be reversed -- thanks for making it

Played the time trial version alone. The controls and visual were basic, but fit the theming of the game. Everything worked well, and the car controlled as expected. Nice work.
