Nothin' To Muffin by SP3sheep

-Don't you just hate it when you want to bake something but there is nothing in your fridge, and the store closes in 2 minutes? This game is about just that-
-Play as a chef who has to take the dangerous road to the grocery store in order to bake something-

Our first Ludum Dare Experience
This was the first game jam we entered as a team, and most of us had almost no experience with unity or game making before. We had a lot of fun and we are all very happy with what we have accomplished, though we had some difficulties along the road.
Things that could have gone smoother
As mentioned before, we were very new to unity, we hadn't even tried the unity collab feature until just before the jam started. This lead to some tricky situations where merging conflicted and some progress was lost here and there, but we managed to restore everything to the state it was before the merge. We should have taken some more time before the jam to figure out how the unity collab feature worked.
A few bugs were spotted along the way, some easier to fix than other, for example; dropping an item from the hotbar sometimes only removed the sprite but the slot was still occupied, this was a big problem as it happened quite frequently but in the end, we got it to work nicely!
Getting animations to work properly has been a major difficulty, and we're still not quite satisfied with how some of them are looking, but that doesn't really impact gameplay too much.
We never felt like we wouldn't have enough time to complete the game, until the end of day 2(the last day we could work on the game together). We realised that there were a lot of features left to implement before we could publish the game, so we were quite stressed in the end of day 2 but we did manage to fix everything.
Things we are proud of
The game is fully playable and most of the planned features have been implemented. We are very pleased with the look of the game, even if some animations are a bit weird. We added particles and sound effects to make the world feel more alive, though there could definitely be more.
We are very proud of what we have done in such a short space of time, we had a fully playable game by the end of day 2, and on day 3 we did some final polishing and bug fixing.
More about the game
Nothin' To Muffin is a fast paced, time based game consisting of 2 main stages, the road and the store. The objective of the game is to make it to the store while collecting recipes on the way. Watch out for any dangers on the way which may cost you valuable time!
After getting to the store, you will see all of the recipes you have collected, take a good look at them and try to remember what ingredients are required to bake those items. Then use the time you had left from the first stage to complete as many recipes as possible, you get more points for more advanced recipes and you lose points for items which aren't baking related. You have very limited inventory space so make sure to only grab what you need. At the end of the run, you get a score based on the recipes you completed, the amount of extra baking ingredients you had in your inventory(some items give negative points, watch out for those) and finally a time bonus multiplier. The game will automatically reset and a new run will will start.
-We managed to get a total score of about 2850, can you do better?

One thing I did notice was that controlling the chef character felt a bit "floaty", which is hard when you're trying to control their motions quite precisely in order to dodge obstacles / enemies or pick up the correct ingredients.
I only scored 1308, i have a poor memory I guess.
it was fun to play^^
Congrats on your first LD entry. Good job!
One criticism I have is that it isn't obvious you should be crossing the roads and not following them, but other than that: good work.
