All Is Well by MKnooihuisen

[raw]
made by MKnooihuisen for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

A peasant with nothing stumbled upon the throne room of an ancient castle. Inside, he sits upon a glorious golden throne for some much needed rest.

At the right hand of the throne is a WELL. He hears something. Is that a voice in the WELL?

Turns out the WELL is evil, so is the castle, and now a bunch of bright-eyed adventurers believe him to be evil, too! This can't end WELL...

CONTROLS

Arrow Keys/WASD - Movement - Moves the player around

Left-click - Basic attack - Performs an AoE melee attack that damages any enemies immediately in front of the player

Right-click - Fire blast - Fires a projectile that deals good damage to one enemy if it hits

Well, that was nice haha all the 'wells' are a bit ... too much, but the other sound effects, like the fire, were fun! Nicely done =)

I loved the audio and the dialog puns. I think the projectiles felt a little slow, when i would miss i had to wait a few seconds before i could fire again.

Some of the enemy sounds were pretty funny.
Could have used some on-screen control instruction. I entirely on accidentally found the fireball button and didn't realize there were melee attacks until just before I died.
Might come back later, see if I can get further.

Fireball aiming felt a bit out off, like it was shooting slightly off to the right from where I was facing, which made aiming quite a pain. The Well puns made it well worth it in the end though.

The puns made me smile. The game was fun! I just wish I could shoot projectiles more often. Maybe some sort of upgrade system?

@brokenmirrormedia We noticed that. If you only tap to aim in a certain direction, the rotation speed doesn't quite let you make it all the way around in a reasonable time. If you move in a given direction for a while, you end up facing that way after a second or two, but unfortunately that makes it difficult to kite if you have to move toward the enemies.

@swordishmage Yeah, we had planned on an upgrade system and more skills, but we didn't have time to implement it. The cooldown of 1.5 seconds is probably a bit much, but we ran out of time to balance it. Glad you enjoyed the puns, though!

Well well. The aiming of the fireball was a bit hard to controll and I could stand on the throne and adventurers could not reach me. But the soundeffects was great :)

Well, well, well.
1. I think, you should have used a top-down camera instead of third-person, as I cant aim and change direction of the player with it.
2. Simple effect or animation could have made a better feedback for a player about attack.

Well, well well well.

well I really enjoyed the puns
well the game had funny audios
well i think if the camera had a different caera angle and maybe easier attacking mechanics as it was too hard and i died at the second wave
well good job!

Well, the progressive text was interesting and general controls were executed well. As others have well-covered, the camera having a fixed, low angle makes aiming challenging until you lead the enemies (with some well-orchestrated maneuvers) into its line of sight (which reminded me of the old Resident Evil games in a, well, not-good way.) And, well, all the assets were pretty entertaining.

Nice dialog system! Wasn't able to get the projectile to hit any enemies, had better luck with left-clicking.

Ok, the game was fun. I really liked the sounds the well well well part became too much after a while. The fireballs were too slow and it was a bit hard to hit the enemies. Also, the game was too easy. There wasn't really a challenge except aiming the enemy. That's my feedback, I hope to see more though because I had fun for sure :).

Got me laughing at the well well well well... And probably the audio is what shines most in this game, only lacking a backtrack to enchance the experience.

I also miss a effect or something to indicate that the basic attack has been performed and actually see its range. I ended up not using it because i couldnt determinate exactly where it was hitting.

The mechanics are quite simple and the controls respond very well (no pun intended), but i personally think that the player moves way too fast.

The graphics are simple but neat and consistent with the game proposal.

Good job on this game!

nice game but the character movement can be optimized I think, the current one is a bit lagging

@patvanmackelberg Yeah, somehow that bug was re-introduced somewhere. We had fixed it at one point by lowering the height of the throne - not sure how it worked its way back in.

Well, I liked it. Funny and challenging. I really liked that you play the villain for once. Well, not voluntarily, but what did I have for a choice? I had to defend myself, they wouldn't listen to me! Oh, those poor dead heroes.

Well, that was the funniest entry I played so far! I liked the audio.
I would have liked a restart option, to skip the intro (although it was very funny) on replay.

In the HTML5 game in Chrome the adventureers climbed the raised floor, but not in later levels, which made it way too easy. So I started walking around to challenge myself. :)
I only used the shooting mechanism, since I lost too much health using the basic attack. Also, since I can only attack in the direction that I am walking, this is of very little use while running away from the adventurers, I found.

Well done!
