Cowquest

A poignant adventure studying the mysterious origins of our universe and its evolution using multi-layered symbolism and metaphors. Scholars believe this piece of video-game may hold the key to unlocking our understanding of metaphysics!

You must renounce the desire for preconceived notions and bask in the immediacy of improvisation. It is not only a a profoundly comedic affair, but also simultaneously a thought-provoking commentary, a microcosm of society, an harrowing tragedy and a peaceful passing of time.

The unique beauty of absurdity is in its ability to seamlessly blend every emotion in the spectrum, far removed from the dignity of rationality.

Controls

  • WASD / Arrow: Walk
  • Z: Interact / Confirm
  • Mouse: Menuing features (except for one which is keyboard only)

Enjoy!

The game is still very janky, but it's part of the charm!

BEFORE CASTING VOTES

The game was NOT finished on Monday. Most of the main features were completed on Sunday, but missed the narrative element and story telling progression which mixes all the features together. The scope of the project was a little ambitious as you will see, and even an all-nighter wasn't enough to finish in time. I still posted in "Jam" because I think it wouldn't get much exposure in "Unfinished" and it would hurt to have such a passion project lost in the dark.

However keep in mind this is still a post-jam version only, finished 4 days later. I don't know if it's right for us to take votes, it'll be up to you to decide. 'Graphics', 'Audio' and possibly 'Humor' to some extent were fair and representative of the game on Monday when the jam ended, but the rest of the categories were absolutely not, especially for 'fun'.

If you feel like this is unfair to other games then stick to words. To us, comments are worth a thousand time more than scores. Ultimately we designed this game to make people feel happy, not to measure ourselves!

Nice game, can see why you didn't have time to finish it in time.

Wow, this one is definitely my favorite game from the jam yet!

First of all, I love the visuals, I feel like the low-res 3D aesthetics has lots of charm. Also, the music was superb, I specially liked the barracks theme, really catchy!

Secondly, I have to admit, when I saw the thumbnail I was totally expecting this to be a short joke-game, who would have thought I will end up loving those cows.

And finally, you guys probably already know this, but the walking speed was excruciatingly slow. Although I guess it is a good fit for the chill background music lol

Unfortunately, I got stuck in the battle/siege sequence (didnt have any units so I couldn't really do anything), but I still really enjoyed my time playing this. Really cool game, good job!!

Loved that cows have different characters and various playstyles! Enjoyed piano music and unusual graphic style for unity. Made it to cow training camp :D

I was really enjoying this, and I loved the rough and crazy look and feel to the movement. It obviously takes more effort to make it crazy like that, than plain. I enjoyed the camera shifts, the confusing nonsense of trying to figure out how to RPS properly, and then in training camp (why is that catchy song reminding me so much of a tune from tyson's punch out?) I sorted out how to assign cows to gather, then craft gear, then put the cows on relax, and then deploy them into gear.

But once I had outfitted my entire cow platoon... what was left? How to do proceed to the Great War? I went out exploring and RPSed a few more conscripts, but after that I called it quits.

Overall this is super-charming, it has a unique zany voice, and the first twenty minutes or so really pulled me in.

As far as voting for LD, obviously the time constraint is super important for people who take it competitively, so I'll just drop a star from each score as a compromise.

Nice and very unique entry here.

When you write the answer to a law school essay exam question, your audience is fictional. Think of your audience (reader) as an informed attorney or a colleague (law student) who is quite familiar with the nature and purpose of law in general; who has read the fact pattern; and who has a passing familiarity with the law of the subject (torts or contracts, for example), but needs to be reminded of the precise rules of law. Then proceed as if you are explaining the situation to that person.[spam]
