Starting the game I had already felt defeat when it said the bean has no flavour. But I was revived by the fact that I could achieve flavour. And therefore I did and I've been getting all the flavour for the past 10 minutes. Cheers to a humorous and silly little game!

Thanks! @brotherbondproduction We really wanted our players to """feel""" the mixture of raw emotions the bean was feeling.

First off, I love the idea! That little intro sequence was very cute.

That said, I was pretty put off by how stiff the movement was, and how inconsistent enemy behaviors felt.

Thats fair, polishing movement and damage is something we could had spent more time on. Thanks for the feedback! @tongueenvy

It is pretty challenging but the different enemies make it fun. The graphics and sounds fit well. Good job.

I like the sound effects when they die funny and the music in general was very good. Graphics were good except those weird black smudges on the floor they looked bad and needed some variety to them in terms of their shape. Doesnt seem to be a restart button anywhere I only made it to level 2. Anyway good job.

Had fun playing this. The enemy AI was a bit simple, when close they would crowd you really fast, but you could also shoot them at a distance without them attacking you. Still had fun defeating them though. The game was a bit long for an LD game, so didn't have time to finish it.

Good job on the music, also had some good sound effects though the footsteps did get a little annoying.

Great work! From all the LDgames I played so far, yours have the best music d-_-b.
Very easy gameplay, ideal for LD. Overall, good job guys.
Wishing much success for future entries!

For your first shot at a game jam I'd say that y'all did a wonderful job!

I found a number of the rooms to be completely empty and I wasn't sure what the purpose of those were. Not all but some of the enemies could be defeated without triggering them, I was thinking if you hit them once it should trigger their AI.

nice little Twin stick shooter. My girlfiend likes the story of poor jellybean ;)
one very annoying thing is that you didnt adjust the diagonal movement speed of the enemies. when they walked diagonally they were way too fast. :/

@thor1 @pixamentory Thanks alot!

@hyperscope Having the enemies wander around was something we thought of but ran out of time for. Still, we never actually planned to have them aggro on hit. I think your suggestion would make sense, thanks for the feedback!

@asimov Glad she liked it! We will keep in mind balancing diagonal movement speed when we make another game of this genre.

Congrats on your first LD entry! The music is really cool, already in the menu I was lingering around to hear some more of the music, and then in game I got all pumped up. The sound effects are also nice. The graphics are quite nice, but could perhaps be a little bit more cohesive (the style in the start screen, intro and game are quite different).

The game screen was a tiny bit too big for my screen, so I was unsure if I was missing information at the bottom, because I didn't seem to be able to interact with the red jelly bean at first. (I tried for a while, until I realized it was an extra life and that I was still full of life :stuck_out_tongue: ).

The game is quite unforgiving, so it was a pity there didn't seem to be an option to restart the game or the level, other than restarting the application (and going through the intro and the first rooms/levels again). I got till the first exit and some rooms after that, but the red ones moved way to fast for me to see where I could hide or how to shoot them, and I didn't really feel like starting all over again. In the end I did start over again to have another look at the graphics and the audio for giving a rating, and then I got till level 3 (without the second flavor!). It does get easier when you know how the enemies move (and that they don't move till you're close enough). I was curious whatthe yellow bean would do, I killed it and thought "oh it doesn't do anything", and then it surprised me with some bullets. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Maybe I missed a trick or needed the flame thrower to burn something down, but I couldn't reach the bean here:

Good job! I found it a little difficult at the beginning but became enjoying it very much after playing for several minutes. Hoped there's a retry/restart button though.

@papaver Thanks for the detailed review! Really appreciate it! One thing our first game jam has taught all of use is to allocate a good amount of time to tweaking things lol. We spent most of the time dumping things we wanted in the game without really testing them. So the one picture you showed is honestly impossible to get to.

Restarting is something we realized we should had added after we submitted but we don't want to add features for the sake of LD rules. Something to definitely remember to do in the next game!

@vilja Thanks! I'm glad you were able to adjust. Restarting is something we will put first on the list next time.

This is hard to play! Green guys are really fast, so it's hard to attack when they chase you, and there's no reward for beating them, so I just avoid enemies. There doesn't seem to be a lot of variety in the gameplay. I wasn't able to get very far, but it just seemed like a bunch of square rooms with randomly placed enemies. I wasn't sure which way to go. Funny concept, though!

A fantastic entry. Art and sound fit the mood of the game perfectly, whereas the game play is solid considering the time constraints. I can see this evolving into a great little arcade game, reminiscent of Atic Atac. Given that comparison, my only criticism would be the speed of the game. I feel it would benefit greatly if the action were faster to get the old adrenaline pumping. Other than that, though, one of my favourite entries. Well done.

Very Nice ! First of all I did not expect the game to be this long. Three levels plus one boss is pretty neat. I really enjoyed the music too, especially the second and third level ones. The difficulty was set at the right place for me. I found myself several times in dire situations, but always managed to find some red beans in time to heal myself. I think my main concern is about flavours (weapons). I used only the first one, as red and yellow flavour looked really uneffective to me. Anyway congrats for your work ^^

The music is great, but the controls are tight, and the enemies do not feel fair at times, especially when you get instant damage just by walking into a new room.

Congratulations on your first entry! Hope there is plenty more in the future :)
good game, but very unforgiving.

I do wish it was more like a twin stick shooter, where you could aim your shots with a second set of directional inputs. Like if WASD was dedicated to movement and the arrow keys were dedicated to aiming, or vice versa. That would help vs enemies that move diagonally. It'd also be nice to have a way to reset the game without having to shut it down. I died a lot
