Wizard of Worth by schizoid2k

[raw]
made by schizoid2k for LD 44 (COMPO)

Help the wizard defeat the demons and their minions with nothing but a pocket full of change!

  • Move the wizard to avoid minions.
  • The demon cannot be destroyed! The minions can be killed.
  • Move your mouse to tell the wizard where to shoot. Use the left mouse button to fire pennies at the minions.
  • Collect coins within 5 seconds to build up your net worth... 2 pennies per coin!

The game is over when you are attacked by a minion or demon.

This is my Ludum Dare 44 Entry for the theme "Your Life is Currency".

It took me a while to get into it, but then it was fun.
However, I couldn't make it very far, but that is probably my lack of skills.

That game know the meaning of "every penny counts" lol. So much fun! I had a great time playing this! Nice sound and game design! The shot is precise and flows nice.

Nice take on the theme! Generally shoot'em ups let you spam bullets but here you used the theme to do something new and fun.

I liked this game, it was pretty tricky to get used to the game play, but once I had I really enjoyed it. Pennies are always fun to collect! Nice job on the theme too. Plus this is a 48 hour game... so kudos on that.

How interesting! If I waste a single shot I don't make anything back, and that timer forces me to stay close to the minions, but the minions attack me if I get too close. I kept getting up to $0.17, and then not being able to recollect the coins I shot because of the number of minions.

Ha, this is generally the part of my comment where I leave criticism, but honestly, this is a really nice little game, without any glaring flaws in design. A couple of things to add might be some game music, and staff/wand upgrades that allow the coins to stay on the floor longer, greater AOE, maybe value multiplier for each unmissed shot, etc...

Haha, Im a poor wizard :D I have no idea why wizard should use money for his spells, but it plays nice :) I would like add more different types of monsters, not just minions. 🧙

I really like the risk-reward mechanic here! It's quite simple, but I definitely found my strategy needed to change as the time went on and additional waves started to spawn. The addition of even a couple of new enemy movement types could really help to flesh this out.

Nicely done! Reminded me of Geometry Wars in the best possible way.

I did $0.28
Fun and well implemented! The controls feels good and I find the base mechanic works well.
I would have been nice to be able to use arrow keys (I had to switch my keyboard from AZERTY to QWERTY to play the game).
It's also great that you added visual and sound feedbacks for almost everything. These are small details that make you game very polished considering this is a compo! I would have added a visual feedback showing that a coin is about to disappear.
Very good job.

Unloaded into the first guy, not a ghost lol. But I got the hang of it, and it got hard as those levels went. Couldn't spam shooting fast enough! Good job!
