Purple Dimension by XCVZXC

[raw]
made by XCVZXC for LD 44 (COMPO)

Screenshot_1.png Overview:

Because of scientists' inefficient experiment a portal to another dimension was opened and hordes of monsters came out of it. Only you are strong enough to get there and destroy the crystal that keeps portal opened. You can use injections to upgrade your skills but unfortunately, the side effect of their actions is the reduction of your life energy. They can be really helpful though.

Features: - 6 types of deadly monsters - 1 type of even more deadly weapon - 6 powerful skill upgrades - ~~countless types of bugs~~

Controls: * A,D - move * Space - jump * Mouse - aim * LMB - shoot

Notes / Tips: - Difficulty is not really well balanced, but here is a tip: choose better upgrades for easy mode and no upgrades for hard mode - There is actually something at the top of the building. This is not an infinite game. You will feel rewarded - Don't jump out of a window. There is nothing outside apart from DEATH (i just forgot to add collisions) - I wanted to make several types of floors, but ended with only 2 :/ guess why haha. - creating working stairs in video games is real pain. Never again! - I am quite good at music but sadly this one is really short. Hopefully you like it anyway.

The game fits the theme nicely. The music is really cool and gets you in the groove for fighting aliens. 100 floors is a bit much, in my opinion, it starts to become a bit repetetive after 50.
The bugs that fly through walls got me very often, it keeps you on the edge

Solid game!

Now this game was fun! A simple premise - climb the tower and shoot purple dudes while roided up with all the upgrades from Scientist McExposition. I found that it's easy to cheese it by standing on the stairs while shooting bad guys on the other level. At least until the flies show up. Overall, it fit the theme and it was a fun experience, if a little repetitive.

The music could get a little bit annoying after a while, though. But it's toggleable, so it's all forgiven

This is awesome, really enjoyable! Cute graphics and I liked the music and SFX. If I have one complaint it's that the world never scrolls downward, which makes it confusing if you end up falling back down to the previous floor.

Great work!

Simple game, but really engaging and interesting. I prefer more dark atmosphere, but it looks also so good! Power-ups have sense and they sticks with each other perfectly. Music is also brilliant.
Great work!

Nice music and the idea with powerups are good. Also the graphicare nice.I liked that player cand break windows (I dont know how for others but i like this small things, it would be better if you made an animation for breaking). Good job!

Nice! I like the difficulty curve a lot. Very hard game to do. Did you beat all 100 stages?

The flying enemies took this game from "just okay" to "really fun!". 100 floors is alot considering not alot changes between each floor, but I was having enough fun to see it through till the end.

@liauj I think I spent too much time on making useless things (who the hell needs vsync option in LD game). Thats why i didnt have time for designing different types of floors and playtesting. Thanks for playing!

By the way There is some spoiler on your screenshot. Did you notice this purple eye? Plot twist!

I had a lot of fun playing! The particle effects when killing enemies and breaking windows was satisfying and the ai was simple yet still difficult when faced with the constraints of the room (in a good way). Loved that I felt like John McClane vs aliens! Great work!

100 floors might be a bit too many but you compensate for that for all the different enemies and increasing difficulty. Although, the tower is a bit repetitive and cramped to fight in. Made it to floor 66! Thanks! Really really good game. 5 * all round

I enjoyed that way more than I expected, haha. First run through I got destroyed, but once I learned that increased aim and firerate where OP I pretty much flew through. The broken windows when the flying enemies came through them was a really nice touch and boy oh boy were you right about your music, it was incredible. Although not too innovative, a job well done all the same!

My Stats:
474 killed
468 sec
2 injections

Only got to the 26 flour.

The menu is good, but you can't click anything with a mouse. Enemies get stuck on the stairs and they can't see you if you were standing on stairs below the flour. I liked that they did that, because I wasn't stressed.

This was a good game. Nice adaption of the theme, cool effects. I like that you can shoot the windows. Maybe the graphics could have been a bit nicer for the enemies. Good job!
