Hollow Priest by pandan

Second Ludum Dare. This theme started out as a personal favorite. Very creatively challenging theme, I'm sure others have come up with better ways to utilize it. That said, i had fun. I didn't push myself as hard as I did last time though, that was brutal.
This game is about using your "life force" as a resource to launch magic, and in doing so, propel yourself around the map. Scoring is based on how few deaths you managed before reaching the end.
It's purposefully very difficult, which makes it fun for replay-abilty. Pause menu allows you to reset the game if you want to reset the death counter and skip checkpoints.

In the meantime I will record a video.
EDIT: WebGL version is up!
Also don't hold back any criticisms about the game. I allowed anonymous reviewing as well if you prefer.
I found one bug(?), that when you are reborn you need to first leave the checkpoint and enter it again to be healed by it again.
I would have loved to see some more content with the given mechanics, I ended up just running around the level trying out what fun platforming you could do with the bounce back.
And one last thing, I am missing the music in this one. Some Doom-Like rocky soundtrack would have totally rounded the experience for me.
But non-the-less this is one of the best entries I have played so far!
If I had to do it over again, I would make a series of rooms enclosed that require health to exit. And entering a room would re-lock the door behind it.
I think I started having so much fun with the 'rocket jump' that I lost my focus.
It took me a while to realize you had to jump and shoot at the same time. You can get across some of the spaces by shooting only, but it's way easier if you jump first. I didn't realize that until I got to the tower where you have to jump across the missing stairs.
Great take on the theme. We really struggled with the theme, but you nailed it!
I also liked the decaying hand.
