About:
Space Hunt is a Compo game made for Ludum Dare 44.
Space Hunt is a game about shooting the enemies in space. Your life is currency - You can use it (energy) to buy and shoot weapons.
How to play:
- Shoot the enemies.
- Avoid projectiles.
- Avoid asteroids.
- Basic Guns do not need energy.
- Use energy (health) to shoot laser guns and to buy rockets or EMP.
- Energy level must be at least at 25% (+ Cost) to buy weapon or to use laser guns.
- Damaging enemies increases your energy level.
- Use EMP to temporarily disable enemies.
- Enemies can use EMP to disable your ship aswell.
- Do not let the energy to drop to 0.
- Have fun!
Default controls:
- Arrows / WASD - Movement
- 1 / V - Shoot Guns
- 2 / B - Shoot Lasers
- 3 / N - Shoot Rockets
- 4 / M - Shoot EMP
- Q / K - Buy Rocket
- E / L - Buy EMP
- Escape / P - Pause Menu
Note:
- If you play WebGL version and have issues with low FPS or the game does not load try standalone Windows version. :D

Congratulations on your game for this Ludum Dare o/
I found the enemy ships did a lot of damage given how fast they fire. Maybe halving the damage from enemies would be good. I would also make the asteroids take only a portion of health. I ran into a couple of occasions where I couldn't dodge them.
Not sure why you assigned separate buttons for buying rockets and EMP. I mean you don't have to buy laser shots, but those cost energy too. I would just have the 3 and 4 keys shoot and use up the energy automatically like the laser.
I liked the graphics, actually the screenshot is why I picked this game to play :D
Also I believe that it matches the theme - "energy" is your "life" and you spend it (like money - currency) to buy weapons/shoot.
@icylava Buying rockets and EMP is like this to allow you buying them for later. So you can shoot them when you're low on energy. :)
Little suggestion : it would have been nice to be able to use the numeric keypad for the attacks ^^
One Thing I find a bit awkward are the controls for shooting.. I would have liked mouse controls and weapon selection via mouse wheel with an interface for seeing the current weapon
@melaniee I decided to not use numeric keypad because some keyboards don't have it. I could have added thrid controls layout that includes numeric keypad though.
@cozmic I planned to implement configurable controls, but I wanted to finish the game for the Compo, so I focused on more important things. I believe that selecting weapons via mouse wheel wouldn't work well for such game, it would be too slow and imprecise.
