Important Note

  • You can add another card of the same type on an existing unit to upgrade it!

  • If you make a unit not defend or attack, you heal the amount of HP written on the purple drop icon on the unit!

Lore

You are the Holy Mother, one of the true gods of a Hellenic style people. You are the mother of the people, and create them from your own holy blood. You regain your power and blood from the prayer of believers, however your loyal servants are being hunted down, by vile preachers of false gods and barbarians. The faith is down to the last temple, the Temple of sacrifice! Protect your people for as long as possible in this survival card game.

This was my second time participating in Ludum Dare. I initially wanted to make a game that was a mix between Darkest dungeon and a deck building card game. However as is the case with Ludum dare many concessions were made along the way.

I had fun making this game, and I hope you all have fun playing it.

The game has a tutorial to help you get started, but most of the mechanics are for you to explore. I did everything for the project from code to art and even some simple music.

Tools used:

  • Game Engine: Unity 2019.
  • Art Creation: Krita.
  • Music: Bosca Ceoil.

Controls:

Mouse Clicks. Escape key to open and close the pause menu.

These are some screenshots from the revolutionary exhilarating game play :joy: gameplay1.PNG gameplay2.PNG

I hope you enjoy the game, I worked hard on it and am very proud of what I managed to make in 48 hours. If you are interested in following the development of this game or others I may make in the future, please feel free to follow me on twitter: https://twitter.com/Mohammed_Kapiel

Ha, I guess we weren't the only ones to make a text-heavy game about sacrifice! Interesting concept! Impressive thing to pull off in a game jam.

It is interesting that there is a story. Let even everything in the text and maps. A lot of text)

It took me some time to understand how it works (in particular at the beginning I didn’t realize I could upgrade my cards, and I wasn’t sure what all those numbers meant), but then it was pretty easy to stay alive by simply using two archers to kill everyone, so I arrived to round 50 and then stopped because it didn’t seem to get any harder.

But anyway, except for the difficulty that could be more balanced, it’s a pretty good entry, I liked it!

Great job getting this done in time for the jam! Core concept is solid, though I felt like the enemy numbers grew a bit too quickly to deal with effectively.

Good job, I liked the lore and the detailed tutorial that you can re-open if needed. Neat!

Card type games are my weakness. Great concept and mechanics. Fun to defend my warriors with my pool of life. The menus and help button where easy and helpfull. Maybe a faster background music will fit better the game. Congratulations!

Interesting concept. Gameplay was good too, sounds were a bit annoying also less text would be nicer but for a compo game it's well made. Also if you have time check out my game too :v:

Loved the game! everything works well together and it all adds up to a nice solid game. I didn't understand how to use the Priest but other than that the game was fun. Hope you continue to work on the game, and congratulations on completing the compo.

Cool card game. But I think it's to much text, at least it's not essential for playing. Also the game fits the theme. Good job!

Cool game but i'm not sure if I get all the mechanics right, is putting same unit type on owned unit slot ugrades it or just stacks it? Why is enemy keep getting those damn catapults with so much damage and health :( and lost again.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback

@fractal Thank you, I updated the description here to mention the upgrade, it is my fault that it didn't make it into the ingame tutorial, not to mention that the tutorial isn't very good .

@64mega Thank you, and I agree that the game balance is off. It grows linearly but it should start slower and escalate more later on. People complained for it being both to hard and to easy for this reason I believe.

@lagrume-masque Thank you  It was a very late addition, but well worth it, glad you liked it.

@twobythree Glad that you liked it  , and I do agree about the music. I wanted to make a soft theme for the main menu and a more intense one, but didn't have enough time and ended up just using the main menu theme ingame.

@a-coltzz I agree, audio isn't my strong suite, but I felt like anything was better than nothing, here's hoping it didn't hurt the experience .

@kunonooni Thank you I'm glad to see that you think so  I hopefully intend on expanding on this game, it was fun to make and I am very happy to see everyone's feedback. And yes I explained most things badly  But priests basically heal you since any unit that you don't attack or defend with adds to your HP, but Priests add the most.

@victorcrafty Thank you, and yes I tried to distinguish game important text in red, but overall the game has way to much unnecessary text.

@pawciu I think stacks is a better term true. This matters the most for hoplites since you can lose some of them during attacks. To be honest the numbers aren't perfectly balanced, however with play testing it is possible to reach level 300+. It is my fault for not explaining the mechanics too well.

Quite a fun card game. I rather like the upgrade and health regeneration mechanics. I missed out on the upgrade mechanic the first time I played, but the second time I played, it felt pretty good.

The trumpet fanfare, while nice, is a bit much after 72 rounds, haha. I think both our games ran into a repetitive audio trap, but at least your game wasn't quite as ear piercing as mine.

I think a display for ones' current health and regeneration would be handy if you continue development on it. It's difficult to tell how much health I will lose from playing a card or taking a hit.

I think this game has a lot of room for expansion, which is pretty cool.

Overall it's a pretty original game, and fun to boot I like that. Good job!

@vinay-rao Thank you so much. And I do agree about the audio :joy: Music isn't my thing but I still enjoyed making it. Also I do agree that the UI should offer more and better feedback for actions and decisions. And for the health I do agree, but fun fact I initially wanted health to be limited to the size of the health jar, but forgot to code the upper size limit :joy: , so yes that should be part of the UI. I am glad that you liked it, and I hope that I can keep adding to it and make it into a full fledged thing. I also hope that you consider doing the same, I really enjoyed your submission ad would love to see it grow
